A celebration of life for Betty Jean Selman Carlisle, 87, will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Eddie DeHondt officiating. Interment to follow at Mooringsport Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends at Rose-Neath Southside from 4:30 until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Betty was born to Harvey William and Emily Fort Selman in Palestine, TX on November 6, 1928. She passed away on April 10, 2016 after a lengthy illness. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She retired from Shreve Memorial Library, Mooringsport Branch, after 19 years of service. She was an active member of the Mooringsport Baptist Church, Mooringsport KUWOT Club, Homemakers Club, and worked diligently on the Mooringsport Fall Festival. Her greatest joy was cooking for her husband, Vernon and family. Betty loved to travel with friends and was a voracious reader. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing all board games, especially Scrabble.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, James Vernon Carlisle; siblings, Wanda and Edward, Edgar (Sonny) Selman, Albert Selman and Eloise Selman Tudor and husband, Edward. She is survived by her son, Jerry Carlisle and wife, Charlotte of Bossier City, LA; daughters, Wanda Hendricks and husband, Billy of Greenwood, LA and Catherine Palmer and husband, Victor of Lafayette, LA; brother, Robert Selman and wife, Jean of Jacksonville, TX; sisters-in-law, Valerie Crowley and Dot Selman; four grandchildren, Stephanie Carlisle Collier, Todd Carlisle, Emily Palmer Guidry and Carlisle Joseph Palmer and great-grandchildren, Autumn, Victor, Hannah and Keith; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and extended family Lesa Miller, Meredith and David Fields.
Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be Todd Carlisle, Keith Hendricks, Leroy Norris, Carlisle Joseph Palmer, Darrell Selman and David Selman.
The family would like to extend special thanks to devoted neighbors Yvette Christian and Leroy Norris for their care, love and concern for Betty. Also thanks to the staff at The Bradford, especially Stephanie and Mattie.
