Betty Jane Dufour

Betty Jane Wilkins Dufour, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was born to Lola May Petersen Wilkins and Elmer Wilkins on October 25, 1931, at Pine Island, Louisiana. Surrounded by her loving family, she went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, following a lengthy illness. The family will accept friends and family during visitation 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 1, 2017, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home on Marshall Street in Shreveport. A celebration of her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Woodridge Baptist Church, 850 East Bert Kouns. Officiating will be Dr. Chuck McInturf. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue. Honoring her as pallbearers are Chess Hutchings, Shannon Collins, Casey Holland, Trey Goodwin, John Arnold, James Peck, Brandon Russell, and Benjamin Lonadier. Betty graduated from McLeod High School in McLeod, Texas, and attended nursing school at Highland Hospital in Shreveport. She met and married the love of her life, George Leldon Dufour, and in 1949, they married and raised five daughters. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Sharon Lorraine Dufour, her sister Louise Wilkins Long, and an infant brother Lawrence Elmer Wilkins. She is survived by daughters Carol Reed (Tommy), Diane Denny (Ronnie), Susan Thomas (Jim), and Donna Lonadier (Eric). She is also survived by grandchildren Kimberly Hutchings (Chess), Karen Collins (Shannon), Kay Holland (Casey), Christy Goodwin (Trey), Melissa Arnold (John), Jennifer Russell (James Peck), Brandon Russell (Jordan), and Benjamin Lonadier (Madison), and 12 great-grandchildren. Other survivors include siblings Helen Wilkins Sinclair (Holloway), Donald Wayne Wilkins (Maurice), David Glen Wilkins, and sister-in-law Lola Caldwell Henderson. Having grown up during the Depression, Betty became a resourceful person who always appreciated the value of hard work. This was evident as she and George were co-owners of Dufour and Layne Floor Covering Company, as well as in her devoted role as a wife and mother. Betty's love extended beyond her family to friends and acquaintances. She had a reputation for bringing joy and encouragement to others, especially with those at her much-loved Caddo Heights Baptist Church, Northwoods Baptist Church, and Woodridge Baptist Church, and with her friendships at The Glen. Her deep faith in God carried her through the trials of her life, and she constantly reminded us that, "God is so good!" Those who knew her best know that she always had a song in her heart that she joyfully shared with those who were blessed to know her. The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Craig Miller, Wanda Carpenter, Belinda Montgomery and staff of Southerncare Hospice, and the staff and her friends at The Glen, especially her beloved friend, Clemmie McCoy. The family is also especially grateful for each person who called, visited, sent cards, and prayed for our dear Mother and Grandmother. She so appreciated each and every act of kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodridge Baptist Church, Northwoods Baptist Church, or to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe, Louisiana.
