Funeral services for Betty Ray Elenburg, 95, will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Airline Baptist Church, 4007 Airline Dr., Bossier City, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Cemetery in Haughton, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Brother Harrel Shelton.

Betty was born on October 6, 1928, to John Hence Newsom and Cora Mae Starnes in Grayson, Louisiana, and passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in Haughton, Louisiana.

Betty was a graduate of Kelly High School. She began her career at BellSouth and later transitioned to H&R Block, where she devoted 30 years of service before retiring.

In her free time, Betty found joy in various hobbies and interests. As a member of Airline Baptist Church, she found solace and community in her faith. Beyond that, she enjoyed activities such as sewing, gardening, bird watching, and decorating for Christmas.

One of Betty’s proudest accomplishments was her enduring marriage to her beloved husband, Billy Elenburg, for 55 years. Their bond was a testament to love, partnership, and mutual respect. Family held a special place in Betty’s heart, and she radiated love towards all those close to her.

Betty will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on through the legacy of kindness and compassion she leaves behind.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Elenburg; daughter, Theresa Shattuck; father, John Newsom; mother, Cora Newsom; sisters, Marceil Frazier, and Annie Lea Elenburg. She is survived by her daughter, Tanya McLeod; grandson, William McLeod and wife, Josie McLeod; great-grandchildren, Morgan Dupree, Noah Walker, Connor McLeod, and Sophia McLeod; great-great-grandchildren, Layla Warwick; brother, Jimmie Newsom.

Honoring Betty as pallbearers will be Jimmie Newsom, William McLeod, Noah Walker, William Bennett, Dickie Carter, and Joshua Grant. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Connor McLeod.
