HOMER, LA: Funeral services were held for Betty Ruth Smith Garriga, 85, at the Chapel of Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 E. 5th St. in Homer on Tuesday, Jan. 26th at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Thurman, officiating. Interment followed in the Homer Arlington cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Garriga was born July 11, 1930 in Homer to Willie and Lura Smith. She entered into rest Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at her home surrounded by her daughters following a lengthy illness. The true sense of a homemaker, she doted over her husband and children. Making a new dress for her girls every Christmas and taking care of all of their sewing needs, she was a wonderful seamstress to her family and friends. Working in the yard, her flowers were beautiful and there was never a limb to be found on the ground. She loved the outdoors and spending time with her family. Mrs. Garriga was a longtime member of the Homer First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Garriga was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Garriga; and three brothers, Albert Smith, Robert Earl Smith and Charles Ray Smith.
She is survived by four daughters, Karen Busby and husband, Dean of Bernice, LA, Carmen Poss and husband, Mark of El Dorado, AR, Susie Hunter and husband, J of Homer and Toni Dean and husband, Kevin of Rockmart, GA; two sisters, Mildred McHam of Homer and Patsy Winterrowd and husband, Gene of Houston; sister-in-law, Earline Smith of Homer; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Davidson and husband, J.D. of Haughton, Stacey Busby and wife, Angie of Bernice, Sandy Wall and husband, Donnie of Downsville, Matthew Busby of Bernice, Joseph Poss and wife, Leann of El Dorado, Jason Poss of North Little Rock, Lori Sanders of Minden, Daniel Dean and wife, Christy of Rockmart, GA and Nicholas Dean and wife, Katie of Dallas, GA; eighteen great-grandchildren, Reagan, Jacob, and Bailee McDonald, Rachel and Shawn Busby, Hannah Champion, Ariel and Laney Wall, Madelyn and Gentry Poss, Alanna Johnson and Mallari Sanders, Danielle, Makayla, Carter and Brianna Dean, and Mathias and Liam Dean; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Joseph Poss, Jason Poss, Chris McHam, Greg McHam, Warren Smith and Gary Smith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Dean and Nicholas Dean.
Mrs. Garriga's family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers, B.J. Pike, Toni Latham, Margaret Archie and Lisa Ford.
