Betty Levy

Betty F. Levy of Shreveport died on February 4, 2017, one day after her 95th birthday. She was born in Los Angeles, CA on February 3, 1922, the second daughter of Charles and Bessie Friedenthal. She was raised in Beverly Hills, CA, and graduated from Beverly Hills High. In the fall of 1942, while attending UCLA, she went on a blind date with Dr. Harold Levy of Shreveport, who was stationed with the Army Air Forces in Southern California; they were married a few weeks after their first date. After the end of World War II, they moved to Shreveport, Dr. Levy completed his residency and began practice as a pediatrician, and the couple raised four children. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Betty was an avid tennis player and active in several civic and philanthropic organizations. She loved her husband, her children, her friends, her tennis, her mahjong, and her new home town. She was preceded in death by her husband and her older sister Jane Brewster of Camarillo, CA. She is survived by son Jim and daughter-in-law Marcia of Sonoma, CA; son Chuck and daughter-in-law Anita of Boca Raton, FL; son Roger of Menlo Park, CA; and daughter Judy Harrison of Georgetown, TX; sisters Sybil Roos of Houston and Carolyn Murov of Shreveport; grandchildren Alison Faith Levy of San Francisco, Lisa Levy of New York, Amy Levy Waldman of Orlando, Andrew Ganucheau of Baton Rouge, and Matthew Ganucheau of Oakland, CA; and great grandson Henry Robert Plotnick of San Francisco. Betty's family is very grateful to Renee Matheny and the staff of Montclair Park Assisted Living and Chateau at Montclair for their loving care of her over the past ten years. Interment will be in the B\'nai Zion section of Greenwood Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017, and a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at B'nai Zion Temple, 245 Southfield Road. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's memory be made to B'nai Zion Congregation. Now, Betty has the final words - her proudest: "Do you know my husband Doctor Levy? He's a pediatrician. I have four children - Jim, Chuck, Roger and Judy Irene." A-OK, Mom.
