Homer, LA: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Betty Jo Blackwood May, 90 years old, at Rose-Neath Chapel in Homer, LA, on Friday, August 11, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Brian Thurman officiating. Interment followed at New Hope Cemetery in Patmos, Arkansas. The family received friends at Rose-Neath Chapel, prior to the funeral on August 11, 2017 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Mrs. May was born February 24, 1927 in Mineral Springs, AR, to Jesse and Margaret Elizabeth Ross Blackwood. She entered into rest on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her family. Mrs. May was a member of the First Baptist Church of Homer for 67 years. She was a member of Eastern Star.
Mrs. May was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer "Duge" May; a son, Hubert Thomas May; five siblings, Juanita Faulkener, twins Joy Stroupe and Roy Blackwood, Wallace Blackwood and Jim Blackwood.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty A. Allen and her husband Jim; two brothers, Donald Blackwood and Charles "Bo" Blackwood; three grandsons, Tony Allen and wife Manon, Michael Allen and wife Shelley and Brady Allen and wife Leslie, all of Homer, LA; seven great grandchildren, Savannah, Tara, Jolie, Emily, Nathan, Brannon and Maggie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Mark Haynes and Dr. Scott Haynes, as well as Celeste, Carla and Donna of Regional Hospice for their loving care.
Pallbearers were Tony Allen, Michael Allen, Brady Allen, Nathan Allen, Brannon Allen and Terry Glasgow.
In lieu of flowers honoring Mrs. May, her family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, 406 W. Main St., Homer, LA 71040 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
