Beulah “Bea” Mae Tyler Grimes, 89, of Homer, Louisiana passed away on January 19, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at her home. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Don, of Homer; son, Donnie and wife Sherry of Fate, Texas; son, Robert and wife Melynda of Houston, Texas; daughter, Mary Prior and son-in-law Dan of Homer, and daughter, Tammy Mitchell of Montgomery, Texas. Bea is also survived by her sister, Betty Latimer, of El Paso, Texas. Known as “Granny Bea” and “BB”, she was adored by her eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Bea was born on December 6, 1935, in Coleman, Texas to Samuel and Vernice Tyler. Soon after graduating from Wink (TX) High School in 1954, she met the love her life, Don. They were then married on May 12, 1956 in Lovington, NM. Over the next 68 years, Bea, Don, and their 4 children lived all over the country in New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and California. Bea and Don eventually settled in North Louisiana, where they lived for the last several decades of her life.

Bea had one time worked at Union Carbide in Taft, Louisiana, before taking an early retirement, and later worked at the Council on Aging while living in St. Charles Parish. When she moved to North Louisiana, she worked at Miss Lizzy’s in Homer and volunteered at the First Baptist Church Thrift Store. She was also very involved with the Homer Christmas Festival and Parade.

Bea loved sports, both as an active participant and a spectator. She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play various sports from very young ages up through college. Bea and Don loved attending football, basketball, baseball and softball games at Louisiana Tech and at various local high schools. She took up many hobbies throughout her life: painting, crafts and whale watching being a few notable ones. Most of all, Bea loved being around her family. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially on Fourth of July and Christmas. Bea was an active participant in many boardgames, card games, and free throw contests during those times and was very competitive. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and they loved being with her. Bea will be greatly missed by all of them.

Bea was an active member of Holly Springs Baptist Church in Minden, Louisiana. She enjoyed participating in Ladies’ Circle and buying gifts for her “Secret Pal”.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents and her three sisters: Earlene Huntington, Sammie Hight, and Joyce Hill.

Pallbearers were Bo Grimes, Frank Post, Brandon Mitchell, Nathan Mitchell, Gary Mitchell, and Kelly Grimes.

Visitation was held Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 1:00 at Holly Springs Baptist Church, 854 Highway 79, Minden, Louisiana, and the funeral followed at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Holly Springs Cemetery Association at 172 Ford Drive, Homer, Louisiana 71040.
