SHREVEPORT, LA - Services honoring Beverly Jean Shepherd will be held on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at The Oaks Chapel in Shreveport, LA. Reverend Kendall Docter of Barksdale UMC will be officiating. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery, Bossier City, Louisiana. Visitation will be Sunday, December 18 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Beverly was born on November 14, 1930 in Windsor, MO to Richard F. and Eula V. Matthews and passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016. She spent much of her life traveling the world with her husband, Charles, a 22-year veteran of the United States Navy and United States Air Force. Their lives together took them from Key West, Florida to Okinawa, Japan. Her professional career included homemaking, donut shop proprietor, and executive secretary. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed gifting and sharing her creations. She loved travelling with her family and spending time on the beach, any beach. Her greatest joy was being the matriarch of her family and being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Charles Wilson Shepherd. She is survived by her daughter Pamela Shepherd Brobst of Shreveport, LA, son Ronald Shepherd and his wife Lisa Brown Shepherd of Shreveport, LA, son Michael Shepherd and his wife Mei Beth Jarman Shepherd of Austin, TX, and daughter Sheryl Shepherd Glass and her husband Joe Glass of Bossier City, LA, Terry Smith of Clayton, GA, Bonnie Smith Underwood and her husband Jerry Underwood of Clayton, GA. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Kimberley Brobst Meeder and her husband Andrew, Penelope Brobst Blackwell and her husband Matthew, Kenneth Wayne Brobst and his wife Hannah, Wesley Shepherd and his wife Brittany Sanders Shepherd, Taylor Shepherd and his wife Misti Tupper Shepherd, Zachary and Haley Glass, Megan Shepherd, Ricky Robinson and his wife Angela, Kelly Robinson Haub and her husband Bill, Jacob Smith and his wife Alexis; and seventeen great-grandchildren, Logan and Gabriel Meeder, Madeline, Oliver, Theodore, Emmy Lou, and Camille Brobst, Chandler and Alysse Blackwell, Madison and Ella Claire Shepherd, Charlie Shepherd, Brittany Haub and Christian Haub, Kaitlyn McEachern and husband Aaron, Conner Jane and River Lee Smith. She is also survived by brothers James R. Matthews and wife Peggy of Independence, MO, and Donald E. Matthews and wife Pat, of Raytown, MO. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will grieve her passing. Honoring Beverly as pallbearers will be Matthew Blackwell, Kenneth Wayne Brobst, Zachary Glass, Andrew Meeder, Taylor Shepherd, Wesley Shepherd. The family would like to thank Dr. Jina Miller, Dr. April Patton, the staff and her many friends at The Oaks of Louisiana. The family suggests memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 3100 Samford Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71103.
