SHREVEPORT, LA - A private Graveside Service for Billie Rhea Corley, 94, will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at Forest Park East Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Easterling.
Billie was born August 9, 1922, in Texarkana, AR to Dollie Kirby and Estle Dewey Rhea and passed away peacefully on April 13, 2017. She married Wayne Thompson Corley May 29, 1941, together they had two children. She was a resident of Shreveport for over 60 years. Billie attended Louisiana Tech University, where she was a founding member of Beta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree from Southern Methodist University. She later received her Master's Degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. She was a former member of Shreveport Country Club, Petroleum Club, University Club, Women's Department Club, and Potpourri Club. Billie taught Science at Broadmoor Junior High School and C.E. Byrd High School for a total of 35 years. She later retired from Caddo Parish School Board. Billie enjoyed traveling, reading, playing bridge. She was a longtime member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
Billie is preceded in death by her parents, and husband. She is survived by son, Dewey Wayne Corley and wife Gigi; daughter, Diane Corley Hoyt; grandchildren, Phillip Wayne Corley, Melissa Corley Hamilton, Brooke Hoyt Byler; great-grandchildren, Colby Hamilton, Shelby Hamilton, Catherine Corley, Elizabeth Corley, and Annabelle Byler.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Oaks of Louisiana for their caring attention for many years.
The family suggests memorials may be made to Permanent Endowment Fund at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 3715 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA or to the charity of the donor's choice.
