With broken hearts we concede to the sovereignty of God realizing that “the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” Job 1:21 Billy Edward Miller, 80, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, after a courageous battle with pleural mesothelioma.
Billy was born on January 15, 1943, to Willis Edward Miller and Myrtle Lee Jordan in Tylertown, MS. After graduating from C. E. King High School (Houston) in 1962, he joined the Navy and served his country during the Cuban missile crisis naval embargo. While stationed in Boston, Massachusetts, Billy met and married Betty Carol Fountain. After his military service, he moved his family to DeSoto parish where he began an apprenticeship at Western Electric to become a tool and die maker. Around that time, he also started dairy farming. Fourteen years later, Billy decided to start his own business, Miller Precision Machine Works, which he ran successfully for 42 years. As the dairy industry waned, he transitioned to beef cattle. For several years he raised registered Brangus cattle at his beloved Windy Pines in Keatchie. In 1994, he married Charlotte Huff, and they enjoyed 28 happy years together. Of all his life’s accomplishments, Billy’s greatest legacy was his family, and he was most proud of the four boys he raised. His greatest joy was being a PawPaw to his three grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Rufus Fillmore and Annie Maybell Jordan, stepfather Henry Lavelle Stewart, brother Bobby Miller, and mother-in-law, Carol Galloway Huff. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Charlotte Huff Miller; four children – Kenny Miller, Jason Miller and wife Karen, Benjamin Huff, Eric Miller and wife Beth; three grandchildren – Isabella, Michael, and Grayson Miller.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 31, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Drive, Shreveport, LA 71118.
