After a long and valiant fight, Billy Jeff Gordon, Sr. went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2025. Bill was born on June 1, 1941, to Earl E. Gordon and Willie Erma Poteet Gordon.
Bill was preceded in death by his son, Billy Jeff Gordon Jr., his parents, his father-in-law, the Reverend James Byrd and mother-in-law, Essie Rider Byrd, his brother-in-law, James Byrd, Jr., his brother, Kenneth Gordon and wife Marlene, his sister, Betty Graham and husband John, and his sister Shirley McAdoo and husband Rex.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 66 years, Ann Byrd Gordon whom he loved and adored, his beloved children, Angie Gordon Britt, Phillip Gordon and wife Mandi Burford Gordon. Bill’s devoted grandchildren, Chloe Canezaro and husband Mackey, Bo Britt, Billy Jeff Gordon, III (Trace) and Preslee Gordon. Bill was blessed to have 4 beautiful great-grandchildren that adored their Papa Bill, Brody Gordon Britt, AnaRose Olivia Canezaro, Aubrey Canezaro and Brody Canezaro, and several nieces and nephews who loved him so much.
Bill was a strong tower and mighty man of God with a true servant’s heart. Bill was the patriarch of the family, not only to his family, but to his extended family. He prayed daily for each one by name. He prayed every day for God to use him to minister in some way. He began a daily devotional ministry during Covid which grew from a few family members to over 300 people. Bill sent the devotionals separately each day and personalized each one. If Bill heard of a need he would help behind the scenes and pray continually for it and his devotionals were shared and shared again. Countless lives were touched with Bill’s willingness to reach out and share the gospel and counsel others. Through the years Bill poured in to so many lives as a mentor and friend, only God knows the number of lives he touched. What a legacy Bill left for his family and friends to honor and cherish. We know without a doubt; Bill was welcomed by Jesus and heard the words “Well done good and faithful servant.” Bill was a member of Shreveport Community Church where he served faithfully for over 50 years.
Bill started working at Safeway Grocery at the age of 16 and learned everything that he could about the grocery business. Soon after was hired as a Food Broker and before long he was asked to plan the layouts in the stores for all his competitors at only 20 years old. Soon he was encouraged to start his own business and in 1972, he opened the Bill Gordon Company. In 1985, Bill started working with the mass market and wholesale club industry and became one of the first marketing companies to offer National coverage around the country. Bill believed and would tell everyone that any and all success he had in business was due to God placing him in the right place and with the right people.
We have heard from several people that Bill has worked with through the years with different companies and especially several of his friends that he worked with at Sam’s Club and Wal-Mart who have reached out to honor him and shared many stories about his integrity and character.
Many times, when asked about a pivotal point in his career, he would simply say, “that was God”. He gave God all the glory for provision knowing that God had his hand over him throughout his entire life. Bill’s whole life was spent as a man of faith who not only pursued honor and integrity, but he also lived it by example to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
