Billye Marie Moore Milner

Billye Marie Moore Milner passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana, at age 89. Funeral services will be conducted in the main sanctuary of Broadmoor Baptist Church on Saturday, April 27, at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Tom Harrison and Dr. John Sullivan officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:00 p.m. in the Broadmoor Baptist Church Worship Center North before the funeral service. Following the service, a private burial for family members will take place. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.

Born and raised in Oak Grove, Louisiana, Billye graduated from Oak Grove High School and quickly followed with an Associate Degree in Business. Working at GMAC in Monroe, she met her future husband, Joe Milner, at a party - it was love at first sight. They married on December 22, 1955. Billye's steadfast commitment saw her working throughout Joe's military service at Fort Gordon and supporting them through his law school years at LSU in Baton Rouge. Their journey eventually led them to Shreveport, Louisiana, where they would build their life together.

Billye dedicated her life to nurturing her family in a Christian home, embodying love and faith every day and instilling values that would guide her children through life. She had her three boys inside Broadmoor Baptist Church nearly every day the doors were open. She taught Sunday School and sang in the Church Choir for many years. She was deeply involved in her boys’ upbringing- volunteering tirelessly as Classroom Mother, Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA officer across multiple schools, and chaperone on numerous school trips.

Billye loved gardening, which reflected her love for nature and the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking and entertaining, filling the home with love and the laughter of friends and family. Traveling with her husband and later with friends and church groups, she explored far-flung destinations including China and Russia, always eager to learn and experience more of God’s creation. And in other times, you could find her playing Bridge, a game that fostered connection with friends. Her legacy is one of love, service, and the countless lives she enriched. We celebrate her life and the memories we hold dear, knowing that her spirit continues to guide and inspire us.

Billye was preceded in death by her parents, Kirby and Sadie Moore; and by her husband, Joseph William Milner. She is survived by her son, Dr. Joseph Milner, Jr. and wife, Dana of Shreveport, Louisiana, Dr. Michael S. Milner and wife, Nora of Dallas, Texas, Martin Milner of Monroe, Louisiana, and former daughter-in-law, Jill Sharp of Shreveport, Louisiana. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Derrick Milner of Dallas, Texas, Sarah Milner of Austin, Texas, Dr. Emily Milner of Boston, Massachusetts, Lauren Milner Schaller and husband, Kyle of Dallas, Texas, Martin Milner, Jr. of St. George’s, Grenada, West Indies, and Miranda Milner of Ruston, Louisiana.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Harry Hobbs, a cherished friend of Billye’s, who offered her unwavering support and companionship in recent years.

Honoring her as pallbearers are her nephews and great nephews: Lynn Moore, Jeffery Moore, Brian Moore, Spencer Moore, Mason Moore, and Alex Moore.

The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Missions Committee Fund of Broadmoor Baptist Church.
