Bonnie Lou Hay Ross Carver, also known as "Grandmother," passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19th, 2017 in Shreveport, Louisiana at the age of 74.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Evie Hay; sisters Bobbie Cloteal Lawman and Doris Wyatt; and her husband, Marion Stanley Ross, who she was married to for 33 years until his death in 1994. After being widowed, Bonnie then found happiness again when she married Herbert Leon Carver in the spring of 1999.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters; Evie Yvonnie Ross Dirks and husband Billy Dirks; Connie Lou Ross Strange and husband Frank Strange; three sisters Anna Jean Hall, Alta Hamilton, and Louise Bone and husband Joe; two adored granddaughters, Brittney Marie Dirks Trahan and husband Josh Trahan, Amanda LouAnn Dirks Powell and husband Nathan Powell; three great-grandchildren, Garrett Stanley Trahan, Reid Matthew Trahan, and Meredith Reagan Powell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was born on January 25, 1943 in Chestnut, Louisiana to Tom Coleman Hay and Evie Eva Wooley Hay. She was raised in Clarence, Louisiana, with her five sisters. She told many stories of their years farming and picking cotton. She graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1961. She married Marion Stanley Ross in 1962 after meeting at Wren Restaurant. They moved to Shreveport and started their family and life together. Her proudest accomplishments were her two daughters, Yvonnie and Connie. Her years were spent as a devoted mother and wife. She was a successful Avon Representative and in later years a CNA "caregiver." Her patients received so many blessings from her and she from them.
Bonnie will forever be remembered as a superb cook. She enjoyed cooking elaborate meals for family and friends. Her fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and chocolate pies were the staple for many family gatherings. She was a dedicated member of Oakmont Church of God where she shared her love of hosting events. One of her favorites was cooking and hosting the Pastor Luncheons. She so loved to hear Bro. Billy Franks rave about her banana pudding.
She was an overly giving individual who loved helping others and giving to the less fortunate. She was the best coupon shopper and always thinking of someone she could help. She enjoyed passing out food baskets to with her granddaughters, Brittney and Amanda. She and Connie looked forward to making holiday "turtles" to be able to share with others. Her granddaughters will always remember staying the night and eating way too much candy from the infamous "candy drawer," a creation she devised the moment she knew she was to be a "grandmother."
Her family will remember her for her cooking, hosting events, all day shopping trips, perfect bow making skills, flower arrangements, and her spunky personality.
A funeral service for Bonnie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thurs day, June 22, 2017 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel, with Bro. David Radford officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Mr. Chris Bihm and Ms. Sue Lester at The Guest House. We would also like to thank Willis-Knighton Pierremont and their dedicated staff that took delicate care of our loved one. And a special thanks to Joe Johnson, her long-time friend.
