Boyd A. Christensen, Shreveport, Louisiana passed away after a short illness Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Promise Hospital, Bossier City, Louisiana. A graveside service and interment will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2014 at Resthaven Memory Garden in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, with Harold Christensen presiding.
Boyd was born on the family homestead just west of Drummond, Oklahoma on April 14, 1918. He was the son of Dennis and Nina Christensen. He graduated from high school in Drummond and went on to study engineering at the University of Oklahoma and became member number 378 of the Loyal Knights of Old Trusty, an engineering honor society. His studies were interrupted in 1940 when he went to work as an engineer for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas. After World War II, he completed his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma in 1947, at which time he moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma and began working at Continental Oil Company. Boyd completed the Master of Science in Industrial Engineering at Oklahoma State University in 1957. He retired from Conoco in 1981. He was a Certified Professional Engineer and recognized as the Instrument Society of America Standards and Practices Award winner in 1980.
Boyd married Martha Rose Jones on September 7, 1940. They were active in First Baptist Church of Ponca City, where Boyd served as a Deacon and was named a Deacon Emeritus. Martha Rose and Boyd were also active participants in Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Oklahoma organizing efforts. After Martha Rose's death in 2006, Boyd moved into the Stiles Apartments at The Glen in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Boyd is survived by two sons, Boyd Christensen, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Cerrillos, New Mexico and Harold Christensen and wife, Betsy, of Shreveport, Louisiana; a brother-in-law, J. Estill Jones and wife, Violet, of Chatsworth, Georgia; four grandchildren, Gretchen Elizabeth Humphries and husband, Brad, of Stockbridge, Michigan, Eric Fullhart Christensen and wife, Ana, of Beaumont, Texas, Annelise Christensen Clifton and husband, Warren, of Walker, Louisiana, and Joshua Paul Christensen and wife, Christi, of Phoenix, Arizona; ten great grandchildren; four nephews and two nieces.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ponca City Art Center, 819 East Central, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601; Cerrillos Community Church, Post Office Box 676, Cerrillos, New Mexico 87010; Saint Stephen Lutheran Church, 8400 Kingston Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108 or your favorite charity in memory of Boyd Christensen.
