Burial will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave. in Shreveport. A visitation will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr. in Shreveport. Officiating the service will be Pastor Rich.
Brenda was born into the loving home of William P. Gilmer and Agnes Boyder Gilmer on January 23, 1956 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She passed away the morning of September 14, 2023 after battling an injury and illness at the age of 67.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents. Brenda is survived by her son, Mark Stevens; husband, Randy Stevens; grandson, Connor Stevens; granddaughter, Natalie Gonzalez.
Brenda had a passion for work, a love for her family and most importantly, a love for her animals. They were not pets to her, but just four-legged family members. At times, they seemed to get better attention than the other 2 mentioned above. Brenda also enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite places to go were Daytona Beach, FL and Las Vegas, NV. Brenda was a huge sports fan with LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints at the top of the list. She was a supportive wife and mother. She lived her life with a “glass is half full” mentality. This was even more prevalent with her second chance at life after receiving a kidney and pancreas transplant on September 26, 1997. In the later part of her life, Brenda was active in her church, Grace Community Church, where she attended regular Sunday service and weekly support groups until her health prevented her from doing so. At that point, she would watch live feeds of the service from her home.
May her soul rest in peace as she will be deeply missed by her family and those that knew her. Special thanks to the Christus Highland Hospital for taking care of her in her final days of life.
