Funeral services celebrating the life of Dennis Ray LaFleur will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Logansport, 1009 Gum St, Logansport, Louisiana with Bro. Billy Gibbs and Bro. Lyndon Longoria officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Stanley, Louisiana. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from noon until the time of the service at the church.
Dennis was born March 21, 1950, in Eunice, Louisiana to Eual J. and Weeta Roberts LaFleur and entered into rest on Saturday, January 6, 2024, while in the care of Southern Hills Rehabilitation and Retirement Center.
Brother Dennis will be remembered as someone who loved his family and loved serving in ministry. His commitment to his calling to preach the gospel for Christ was unwavering; his love and loyalty to his family unquestioned. He always had a smile and a hug for everyone he met and never met a stranger. He could always be found smiling or laughing! And he always found time to hunt, fish, and watch football; mainly the Saints and LSU.
He loved being a pastor and had the opportunity to serve in local church ministry for over 40 years. During that time, he had the joy of serving as the Pastor at six different churches and supplying in a number of other churches. More than anything, he was a man who treasured Jesus, and wanted others to do the same.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eual and Weeta LaFleur; and his sister, Cinda LaFleur and brothers in law Jack Mills II, Dean Carter, Ted Carter, and Don Smith
His greatest joy was his family. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn LaFleur; sons, Brian LaFleur and wife, Tori, and Dennis “D.J.” LaFleur; daughters, Kimberly Lampkin and husband, Chad, and Michelle LaFleur; sister, Donna Mills; grandchildren, Levi Lampkin, Abigail Lampkin, Brennan LaFleur, Tyler LaFleur, Emily LaFleur, Natalie LaFleur, Carter LaFleur, and Keylee LaFleur; special sisters and bothers in law and a host of nieces and nephews.
Although we had all maintained hope up to the very end for a miraculous restoration of his health, we are comforted in the knowledge that he is now resting in the presence of his Lord and Savior to whom he dedicated his life and ministry on this earth. We cling to the assurance of God's grace, as He, in his infinite wisdom, has determined the right timing of his homecoming. On various occasions, he had proclaimed: "when my time comes, don't be sorry for me; I'll be kicking up gold dust on the streets of glory."
Honoring Brother Dennis as pallbearers will be Brennan LaFleur, Levi Lampkin, Rick Wing, Mike Guillory, Mark Guillory, and Shane Murphy. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce “Killer” Lee, Ty LaFleur, and Carter LaFleur.
