Calvin Coolidge Simpson
Funeral services will be held for Calvin Simpson on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home Chapel in Arcadia, Louisiana. Graveside service will follow at Alabama Baptist Church Cemetery in Arcadia. Officiating the going home celebration will be Bro. Lamar Skinner and Bro. Roy Southern.
Calvin was born on October 17, 1927 in Arcadia, Louisiana and resided her in Claiborne Parish all his life. He went to be with his Lord on March 18, 2015 at his home at the age of 87 years old after a lengthy battle with heart failure and kidney disease. Calvin, better known as Papa, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and friend. He loved his family.
Calvin graduated from Arcadia High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Air Force for 3 years earning the rank of Sergeant. Upon discharge, he returned home in 1948 going into the dairy business, which he retired from after 42 years in 1990. Calvin loved his land with his pastures and loved gardening and farming. He was a member of Alabama Baptist Church, serving as a deacon since 1956. For years, he also taught the intermediate boys Sunday School Class at church.
Calvin is preceded in death by is daughter, Ginger Driskill, and granddaughter Angela Simpson. His parents, Fred and Nannie Mae Simpson; four sisters, Bessie Perritt, Verne Rast, Marilyn Wagner, and Doris Miller; and five brothers, Fredrick, Ben, Harold, Alvin, and Joe Simpson also all preceded him in death.
Calvin is survived by his wife Dorothy Faye Tipton Simpson of 64 years. He is also survived by his son Jerry Lane Simpson and wife Pam, and daughter Rhonda Joan and husband Steve Ragsdale. Other surviving family are his grandchildren; Ashley Simpson Thomas and husband Randy, Holly Simpson Calhoun and husband Scott, Summer Simpson Bourn and husband Thomas, Bridget Crowell Langley and husband Eric,
and Cody Crowell. He also had many great-grandchildren including Landri Thomas, Lane Thomas, Luke Thomas, Dylan Spain, Payton Calhoun, Ashlyn Bourn, Avery Bourn, Anna Grace Bourn, and Ethan Langley. Calvin was also survived by one brother Wayne Simpson and one sister Sue Cady.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia, Louisiana, on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorials can be made to Alabama Cemetery.
The family extends special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Germaine Cassiere, Dr. Scott Wiggins, Dr. Raja Zabareh, Dr. Patrick Grayson, Magnolia Home Health and Premier Hospice.
Pallbearers will be Randal Murphy, Ken Murphy, Kerry Beard, Rusty Woodard, Gary Cathey, and Bobby Joe King.
Honorary pallbearers are Randy Thomas, Scott Calhoun, Thomas Bourn, Cody Crowell, Eric Langley, and Steve Ragsdale.
