Carol Ann Bremer

In Loving Memory of an Extraordinary Mother, Nurse, and Friend:

Carol Ann Bremer, forever remembered as a radiant light and gentle soul, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the age of 78.

Carol was a coal miner’s daughter, born in the rugged hills of Lake, West Virginia, in 1946. She grew up in a remote “holler” without electricity or indoor plumbing—the poorest of the poor in Appalachia. This early chapter of her life—marked by grit, resilience, and a deep commitment to family—laid the groundwork for her enduring legacy of love and service.

After graduating from high school in 1964, she turned down a scholarship to Berea College, choosing instead to enlist in the Air Force to pursue nursing. Shortly thereafter, she met and married the love of her life, Louis F. Bremer, and they had three children: Tamara, Louis W., and Steven. Together, they instilled in their family timeless values and a love of God and country.

Following her separation from the Air Force in 1968, Carol continued her nursing career, caring for countless patients over a remarkable 50-year span. She was beloved by everyone—a selfless servant with boundless generosity who would gladly give her last dollar to anyone in need. A devoted wife, mother, and the ultimate neighbor, Carol would drop everything to help someone in a pinch.

Though Carol’s early years were marked by poverty, her adult life overflowed with joyful dedication to creating a warm and inviting home. Her eyes lit up whenever she browsed Ellis Pottery for bargains on holiday décor or seized a chance to refresh her furnishings. Especially during Christmastime, her home was a magical wonderland for her children and grandchildren: a fridge brimming with homemade chocolate treats, a growing collection of whimsical snowman and Santa figurines, a Christmas tree peeking out from behind lovingly wrapped gifts, and her trademark “Grandma hug” that could melt away any worry.

A woman of unwavering strength, Carol never complained—even as her health waned after several falls and hospital stays. She was a fighter to the very end, astonishing her doctor by surpassing anything he had witnessed in his 35-year career. Six days after being given 24 hours to live, she transitioned peacefully with her devoted family at her side.

Carol’s memory lives on through her brothers, Jerry Baldwin, Les Dials, and Andy Dials; her husband, Lou; her children, Tamara Larck, Louis W. Bremer (Brooke), and Steven Bremer (Carmen); and her grandchildren, Matthew Larck, Joshua Larck, Johnathan Roberts, Zachary Hoevet, Claire Bremer, Simon Bremer, and Louis W. Bremer III.

A service celebrating Carol’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Bellaire Baptist Church in Bossier City, LA. Following the service, she will be laid to rest with military honors at 12:30 p.m. at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carol’s name to the Fisher House Foundation, www.fisherhouse.org, a fitting tribute to a woman who spent her life caring for others.
