Carolyn Burge Mills

October 19, 1937 — January 23, 2024

Carolyn Burge Mills

Neva Carolyn Burge Mills was born on October 19, 1937, and lived 86 blessed years, filled with faith, family, friends, and fun.  For most of Carolyn’s life, she lived in Bellevue Louisiana.

She attended Haughton High School and was a valuable asset to the girls basketball team.  She was also a beautiful Princess on the Homecoming Court. After graduating in 1955, she attended beauty school in Shreveport.

Marrying in 1957, she was a cherished wife to Warren J. “Jim” Mills, and a nurturing mother to two sons, John C. Mills and James C. Mills. Later, she was known as “Gee” to her beloved grandchildren, Tracy Lee Mills (and fiancée Savannah Nikole Fread), Morgan Caroline Mills, and Brittany Ann Dickey.  Carolyn’s greatest delight was her family to which she was endlessly devoted.

Carolyn had several jobs, and each launched another adventure. Along with her role as a hair stylist, she was also a substitute teacher.  But the career that most people knew her by was at Walmart for 30+ years.  Carolyn spent a lot of time extending excellent customer service to everyone that came into her department with a smile and conversation. During her days at Walmart, she was excited to host the Annual Associate Christmas Party at her home.

Possessing a varied taste in hobbies, she enjoyed:  square dancing, round dancing, watching Dancing with the Stars, sewing, puzzles, painting, traveling, antiquing and “boutiquing at Goodwill”.   She also loved volunteering at the Bossier Parish Operation Blessing food pantry.

Her most passionate hobby was gardening, which went hand-in-hand with her love for God.  She spent many hours toiling in the garden while talking with Him and praising Him for the beauty He had grown there.  Carolyn was honored that her garden was chosen for the Piney Hills Master Gardener Trails and Trellises Tour in 2007.

As a young child, Carolyn watched the Bellevue Union Church being built beside her home. She was a charter member there and remained faithful all her days.

Carolyn was deeply rooted in her faith, which gave her peace and comfort when she faced the battle of cancer.

On January 23, 2024, surrounded by her family at home, Carolyn passed from this earth and into her eternal home.  She had said, “look for me weeding His flower gardens,” but we all know there won’t be any weeds in Heaven.

We envision that Carolyn was greeted there by her parents Walter and Myrth Burge; “Jim” her loving husband of 52 years; brother Jim & sister-in-law Sarah Burge; and sister Betty and husband Willie Wallace, and countless other family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory, along with her sons, and grandchildren, are brother Cecil & sister-in-law Ellen Burge, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless dear friends.

The family would like to extend a special note of thanks to Dr. Samip Master, Oncologist at the Willis Knighton Cancer Center and St. Joseph Hospice for giving extraordinary care.

Honoring her as pallbearers will be Mitch Burge, Craig Burge, Thomas Burge, Lloyd Wallace, Cody Wallace, and Danny Greene. Honorary pallbearer will be Carolyn’s beloved friend of many years, Mike Walker.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. located at Rose-Neath Bossier.  A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday. January 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. also at Rose-Neath Bossier. Interment will be at the Burge Cemetery in Bellevue.

If you wish to give a charitable memorial, the family suggests two of Carolyn’s favorites: St. Jude’s or Bellevue Union Church, 199 Bodcau Dam Rd, Haughton, LA  71037.
