Graveside services for Carolyn DeLatin, 80, will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Park East Cemetery, 3700 St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, Louisiana.
Carolyn was born on July 28, 1942 to Clyde and Alma Applewhite and passed away on September 29, 2022 in Shreveport. She worked in accounting at Holmes Pontiac and WKM Wellhead before going to Nursing School and receiving her degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked at LSU, Schumpert and Riverside Hospital before retiring from the VA Hospital after 30 years in nursing.
When Carolyn moved to the country, she took care of all the stray cats that came to her house. She had them neutered and fed them the food they liked until they finally all died out. She had many dogs and loved them dearly. They received the best of care. There was nothing too good for her fur babies.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Alma Applewhite; husband, Lonnie Jerome DeLatin; daughter, Angela Godley; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Clyde and June Applewhite; nephew, B.J. Applewhite; aunts, Louise Burroughs, Christine (Oscar) LaBorde, and Elsie Dickerson; uncles, Preston, Huey and Marvin (Margaret) Coburn; and cousin, Larry LaBorde.
Left to cherish her memory are her nieces, Julia Ann Dickerson, Terri June Applewhite, and Karen (Jose) Cid; great-nephew, Kelly Wayne Horton; cousins, Ronnie (Sandy) Coburn, Peyton (Kari) LaBorde, Robert (Robin) LaBorde, Rick (Liz) LaBorde, Jonathan (Colleen) LaBorde and Puddy LaBorde. She also leaves behind special friends, Karl Fortenberry, Dennis, Bruce and Josh Daughtery, and Becky Runyan. She also leaves behind her sweet and loving poodle, Henry.
Carolyn was a hard worker and a very strong-willed person, but she had a big heart and loved deeply. She helped many members of her family and friends. She was a big supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and would ask, instead of flowers, you send memorials to St. Jude to help the children fight cancer.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Scott McWright, Dr. White and Dr. Noles for the wonderful care and compassion given to Carolyn.
