Funeral services were held for Carolyn Jo Wasson Thurmon, 80, at the Summerfield Methodist Church in Summerfield on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. R.B. Moore, officiating. Interment followed at the Summerfield cemetery. The family will received friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Mrs. Thurmon was born September 24, 1935 in Summerfield to Lovic and Marguerite Wasson. She entered into rest on Wednesday, June 15th at Presbyterian Village Nursing Home in Homer. Mrs. Thurmon was a former Activity Director at Presbyterian Village and she and her husband, Charlie, were longtime members of the First United Methodist Church in Homer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Thurmon; 3 sisters, Maude Erin Hall, Peggy Lynn Wise and Katie Mae Marsalis; and 2 brothers, George Wesley Wasson and Nimmie E. Wasson. Surviving are 1 daughter, Venetia Michael and husband, Joe Ellis Michael of Homer; 3 sons, Rodney Keith Thurmon of Bayou Vista, TX, Gregory Allen Thurmon and wife Cindy of Virginia Beach, VA, and Charles Edward Thurmon, Jr. of Houston, TX; 2 sisters, Louise Locke of Tampa, FL and Gloria Jean Tubbs of West Monroe, LA; sister-in-law, Judy Wasson of Summerfield; brother-in-law, Lloyd Thurmon and wife, Josephine of Marshall, TX; 2 grandchildren, Will Michael and wife, Kristen and Carrie Elizabeth Bubenzer and husband Christian; 5 great-grandchildren, Jayda and Kelcie Robie, Evan and Londyn Bubenzer and Emmy Michael; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; Pallbearers were Bruce Hall, Jimmy Marsalis, Lovic Marsalis, Tony Tubbs, Toby Tubbs, Neil Wise, Don Wasson and Trey Butler. For friends considering memorials honoring Mrs. Thurmon, her family suggests the First United Methodist Church of Homer, Summerfield Cemetery Association or the donor's choice.
