Carter Jason Sanders was born November 13, 1951 and met Jesus face to face on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the age of 68 years old. He was part of the graduating Class of 1969 Fair Park High School Indians where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Denise Green. Lovingly referred to as "the Colonel" by many, he retired as Captain from the Shreveport Fire Department in 2004 after serving for 29 years. As most firemen do, he had many side jobs over the years: chimney sweeper, horseshoer, marshall deputy, jail guard, and part owner of Texaco Xpress Lubes. He was the founding member of his bluegrass gospel band, the Spring Ridge Boys, which enabled him to use his talents for decades playing guitar, playing banjo, and singing for the Lord. After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking, building and refinishing furniture, and piddling in his "Popshop". This continued until he found his niche and favorite past time...building beautiful custom knives for friends and family. He served as Deacon at Providence Baptist Church for over forty years, where he raised his family, played the guitar for worship services, fiercely supported each pastor, and impacted infinite lives for the Kingdom.
He was preceded in entering heaven by his father, Frank Allen Sanders, mother, Doyle Shaw Sanders, father-in-law, Rayburn Dee Green, and brother-in-law and close friend, Barry Neil Lee. No doubt that dear friends were also waiting to greet him: Sue Harbour, Rodney Roach, Luther Marze, Buddy Hughes, Bobbie King, Chris Connell and Nicholas Anderson.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Marilyn Denise Green Sanders "Neicy"; daughter, Kayce Lane Sanders Merry, her two children, Davis Carter Merry and Will Walker Merry, and their father, Matt Merry; daughter, Lindsey Sue Sanders Miller, her five children, Cole Madden Miller, Luke Mason Miller, Jake Oliver Miller, Mollie Sue Miller, Anna Kate Miller; father, Mark Miller; brother, David Sanders and wife, Ann Sanders and brother, Fletcher Sanders.
Honoring Carter as pallbearers will be Bubba Dunn, Allen Hughes, Jim Hewlitt, Mark Miller, Matt Merry, Drew Martin, Nathan Lee, Brandon Green and Keith Camferdam.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Fletcher Sanders, David Sanders, Todd Sanders, Mike Green, John Mayo, Will Merolla, Jim Rolland, Bill Martin, Donnell Byrd, and Ranny Griffin.
In lieu of flowers, Carter's wishes would be to honor him by supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516 or the Trump 2020 Campaign, Donald J. Trump for President, Inc C/O Trump Tower, 725 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10022, as he had a heart for children, loved a true patriot, and wanted desperately to see America become great again.
