Homer, LA: Cathryn Colvin Emerson of Homer passed away peacefully at Willis Knighton-North in Shreveport, LA on March 20, 2017 after a brief illness. Services for Mrs. Emerson were at the First Baptist Church of Homer at 11 am on Wednesday, March 22 interment followed at Arlington Cemetery. Rev. Brian Thurman did officiate. Visitation was held at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Homer from 5 to 7 pm on Tuesday, March 21. Cathryn was born February 22, 1931 in Unionville to the late Ruel and Arma Mabry Colvin. She married Harvey Hugh Emerson, Jr. in 1953 and moved to Homer. Together they raised four children and owned Emerson Motor Company. After 46 years of marriage she was preceded in death by her husband who died in 1999. She was also preceded by her brothers, Charles Ruel Colvin, Joel Allen Colvin and John Kent Colvin; sister, Mary Colvin Gray; brother-in-law, George W. Emerson and sisters-in-law, Lafon Colvin and Gus Colvin. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donald Harvey Emerson (Susan) of Carencro, Karen E. Emerson of Shreveport, Allen K. Emerson (Tammy) of Homer and Marilyn Emerson of Irving, TX. Grannymom, as she was affectionately known by her family, is also survived by four grandchildren; Justin Emerson (Brittany) of Youngsville, Kristin Emerson Goede of Homer, Bradley Emerson (Audrey) of Bossier City and Julie Cathryn Emerson of Carencro. She was blessed with seven great grandchildren; Anna and Emily Goede, Connor, Patrick, Caroline, Sadie and Sawyer Emerson. She is also survived by her twin sister, Nancy Colvin Emerson; sister-in-law, Yvonne Saint Colvin and brother-in-law, Travis Gray, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Honoring Cathryn as pallbearers were her nephews; Wesley Emerson, David Gray, Chris Colvin and Steve Colvin and grandsons, Justin Emerson and Bradley Emerson. The entire Emerson Family sends a special thank you to the administration, nurses and physicians at Willis Knighton-North for their tireless effort on behalf of our mother and grandmother. Thanks also to Karen\'s coworkers for supporting her and Cathryn during this difficult time. It truly does take a village and the WK-N staff were our village. We will never forget your compassionate and outstanding care, kindnesses and thoughtfulness. The family suggests that memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Homer (406 West Main Street Homer, LA 71040) or Claiborne Academy (6741 Highway 79, Haynesville, LA 71038).
