Charles Claude Crick was born on January 7, 1933, in Olla, Louisiana to parents, Ana Cockerham Crick and Claude A. Crick. Charles went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2024, after a battle with cancer. He grew up in Olla, Louisiana and spent most of his time at his grandparents’ farm, J.B. and Celia Cockerham known to all as "Momma and Poppa". He loved to help and learned to work on the family farm. He enjoyed hunting and fishing on the family property. He graduated from La Salle High School in Olla in 1951, worked offshore, took college classes in Agricultural Engineering then served for two years in the United States Army. After returning he helped his father working with large equipment. After an uncle let him know Trailways were hiring drivers, he applied and drove for 28 years. He would meet his wife, Sonja while driving in June of 1960 and would be married on February 17, 1961. After three years of marriage and many moves with work, they welcomed their first-born son, Mark, and would move to Bossier City, Louisiana. They would welcome another son in 1969 but lose him shortly after birth. They then welcomed a daughter in 1971 and for a few years lived in Lewisville, Arkansas, where he would enjoy a massive garden and small peach orchard. They then moved to Benton, Louisiana until both children had graduated high school and found the old Bobby Byrd home place and lived there until moving to Harrison, Arkansas in 2021.
Throughout the years, he enjoyed working in his gardens, woodworking and his pecan trees that he would hand pick and shell many a pound. After retiring from Continental Trailways, he enjoyed the many trips and adventures that he and his family traveled across the country. He was a constant family man; he was the calm in many a storm that has persevered through life. He and his wife would enjoy creating crafts, volunteering at Bossier Medical Center, playing bean bag baseball at the Benton Council on Aging and the many Christmas and birthday meals they shared with family and friends at their house. He always enjoyed his special homemade carrot cake made by his wife, Sonja, for his birthday.
Charles was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents; infant son, James Christopher Crick; son, Charles Mark Crick. He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years, Sonja Crick of Harrison, AR; daughter, Karen Redwine, and grandson, Aaron Redwine of Harrison, AR. Sister, Nelda Allbritton of Orange, TX; sister-in-law, Vicki Alford of Stephenville, TX; nephews, Mike Allbritton of Olla, Wayne(Paulette) Allbritton of Mauriceville, TX, Kevin (Maria) Alford of Stephenville, TX, niece Lisa(Boyd) Alcorn of Stephenville, TX and niece, Melanie Alford of Stephenville, TX. Along with a host of family and friends.
He was raised in the Baptist church and later became a member of Benton Presbyterian Church then became a member of 1st Baptist Church of Benton. After moving to Harrison, Arkansas, he and his family started attending Shiloh Bible Church.
When asked one time about his belief and when he accepted Christ he said, "I would rather be called a fool by my fellow man as a believer than get to the other side as a non-believer and say oops."
Honoring Charles as pallbearers will be Mike Allbritton, Wayne Allbritton, Kevin Alford, Brett Alford, Brady Alford and Brice Gardner. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Charles’ grandson, Aaron Redwine, Debbie Gay, the members of Benton Council on Aging, the North Arkansas Transportation dispatcher, Victoria O’Brien and drivers.
The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Scott Ferguson, Dr. Evan Branscum, the nurses and Chaplain of Arkansas Hospice, along with all of the family friends in Benton who stayed in touch with the family. Thank you to Shiloh Baptist Church in Harrison, Arkansas and First Baptist Church of Benton for all the love and support given to Charles and his family during these last months.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you please donate to your church of choice, your local shelter and spay and neuter programs.
