SHREVEPORT, LA- Charles M. Kendrick, age 90, passed into the presence of his Savior on Saturday, October 18, 2014. Visitation: Thursday evening, October 23, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, LA, 71101. Graveside Service: Friday, October 24, 2014, 3 p.m. at Homer's Arlington Cemetery, Homer, LA. Celebration Service: Saturday, October 25, 2014, 11 a.m. at Gateway Church, 8925 Youree Dr., Shreveport, LA, 71115.
Mr. Kendrick was preceded in death by his parents, N.J. and Katherine Kendrick of Homer, Louisiana. He was born on July 31, 1924 in Homer, LA. He attended Homer High School, during which time he became an Eagle Scout.
He entered the U.S. Army as a private in February, 1943. His duty stations included the Philadelphia Ordnance District and the Philippines until he was discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant in 1946. He returned to Louisiana State University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1948. He then returned to Homer where he entered business with his father at N.J. Kendrick Insurance Agency and later became a partner in 1950.
Mr. Kendrick's business interests included President of ARK Enterprises, President of Insurance Consultants, Inc, and Director and Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Homer National Bank. His civic interests included serving in every office of the Homer Lions Club, including President. He was a Boy Scout Master and served as a board member of the Claiborne Academy Foundation.
He was a member of Grace Bible Church of Homer and later, First Baptist Church of Bossier City, LA, after moving to Shreveport in 2000.
Mr. Kendrick is survived by his wife, Lillian Nation Kendrick (in 2014 they celebrated 64 years of marriage) and his sister, Joann McLean of Monroe, LA.
He is also survived by his three children and their spouses: Helen and Steve Pennock of Hendersonville, NC, Sam and Mary Kendrick of Shreveport, and JoAnn and Stuart Nishimoto of Libertyville, IL, and eight grandchildren: Andy and Charity Pennock of Providence, RI, Elizabeth Pennock of Orlando, FL, Katie Pennock of Charlottesville, VA, John and Sarah Kendrick, Anna Kendrick, Joe Kendrick, and Tom Kendrick (all of Shreveport), and Hope Nishimoto of Libertyville, IL. Mr. Kendrick also welcomed his twin great-grandsons in 2013: Abraham and Samuel Pennock. Pallbearers will be Mr. Kendrick's four grandsons and his two son-in-laws.
Mr. Kendrick served as a volunteer with the Gideons International, and he enjoyed speaking in country churches throughout north Louisiana to raise funding to place Gideon Bibles around the world.
The family would like to thank the employees and staff of the North Pavilion of The Oaks of Louisiana, the staff of The Savannah at The Oaks, and the caregivers of Home Instead, especially Sandy Rambin, all who faithfully served Mr. Kendrick during the last two years.
