Charles LaCour was born to Brazil LaCour and Leocadie Sylvie LaCour on April 14, 1943, in Derry, LA. He was baptized on May 9, 1943 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Isle Brevelle. He moved with his family to Shreveport in 1947, and Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church became his place of worship. He would later attend the school with the same name from the first through the eighth grade. His high school years took him to Notre Dame where he was in the marching band and played the trumpet. Charles graduated in 1962 and although he was offered a scholarship to Bishop College in drafting, he chose the military instead.
He enlisted in the US Air Force receiving his basic training at Lackland AFB. He was stationed in St. Louis Missouri and later at King Solomon Alaska Air Station. Charles served four years; his duty was cryptographer decoding messages for the military.
Charles left the service in 1966 with an honorable discharge and moved to Chicago, Illinois where he had many family members. He began working at Yates Manufacturing, which was later bought out by Remet. He was very successful there and became one of the vice presidents of the company. While working at Yates, he earned his Stationary Engineer license from the City of Chicago. He would remain in Chicago for 42 years. After his retirement in August 2005, he returned home to Shreveport.
He moved into the family home and immediately began babysitting his niece’s children, which was a job which he truly loved. If you didn’t want an honest answer, never ask Charles because he was always brutally honest. He loved a good debate or a good argument. I’m sure he’s doing that right now with our cousin Ann Sylvie.
He leaves to cherish his memory his only living Uncle, Roylin (Loocey LaCour, adopted children, Ramon Jackson (Diedra), Shamonda Hall (Anthony), sisters, Barbara LaCour Simmons, Annie LaCour Moore, Sylvia LaCour Williams, one brother, Sylvester LaCour (LaWaunda) a big loving family, and many friends.
