CHARLES H. WILBANKS
SHREVEPORT, LA -Services celebrating the life of Charles Harlon Wilbanks, 90, will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at Rose-Neath Marshall St. Chapel, Shreveport, LA. Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Ave., Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Reverend Conrad Edwards and Reverend Jerry Means. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles was born December 18, 1923 in Ida, LA and passed away on July 30, 2014. He was the son of Rev. T. J Wilbanks and Gladys Atkins Willbanks. Mr. Wilbanks graduated from Rodessa High School and attended Centenary College. He was drafted into the army during World War II. He received three purple hearts during his service. In 1948 he married Margaret Jane Pennywell. He retired from Arkla in 1985. He was a member of North Highland United Methodist Church, Kiwanis Club, Caddo Parish Farm Bureau, Louisiana Forestry Association, American Legion and a former Boy Scout Master. He was also a member of the North Highland United Methodist Yard Birds who kept the church yard groomed.
He is preceded in death by his two brothers and four sisters. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Margaret Wilbanks; sons, John Wilbanks, Hal Wilbanks and wife, Cathy; grandson, Andrew Baker and a host of other family members. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
