Shreveport, LA - A visitation will be held for Charlotte Sumlin Cantwell, 77, at Rose-Neath's Arcadia Chapel 1680 1st Street Arcadia, LA, Tuesday, January 6, 2015 from 12 noon until 2 o'clock p.m. Private interment will be in Simsboro Cemetery.
She was born on Friday, December 31, 1937 in Shreveport, LA. She was raised in Simsboro, LA and a graduate of Simsboro High School. A graduate of LA College in Pineville. Charlotte moved to Baton Rouge where she met her husband Buster Cantwell and was a school librarian until she retired to follow her passion. After retirement, Charlotte worked in many campaigns both locally and nationally where she poured her love into politics. She served as National Committee Woman for the LA Democratic Party for eight years, attended four National Democratic Party conventions as well. She was a devoted member of University Baptist Church, Baton Rouge and was active in many civic organizations where she was named a Volunteer Activist in the Baton Rouge area and over the years stayed connected to the Simsboro High Schooll alumni. In 2013, Charlotte and Buster moved to Shreveport so they could be closer to family.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, W. R. Sumlin and Selma Rich Sumlin of Simsboro, LA. She is survived by her beloved husband of 43 ½ years, Emmett "Buster" Cantwell of Shreveport and brother, William R. Sumlin, Jr. of Simsboro. Her two nephews Shane Sumlin and wife, Kristy of Shreveport and Richard Sumlin and wife, Nicki of Dallas, Texas as well as four great nieces and nephews.
