Funeral services for Chelsea Marie Gibney Askew, 39, will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at Cypress Baptist Church, 4701 Palmetto Rd., Benton, Louisiana. Burial will follow at Rose-Neath Cemetery in Bossier City, Louisiana. A visitation will be held Monday, September 30, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Reverend John Fream.
Chelsea was born on September 27, 1984 to William James Gibney, Jr. and Tammy Marie Nicholson Gibney in Bossier City, Louisiana and passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 in Tyler, Texas.
Chelsea was a proud graduate of Southwood High School, class of 2003. Outside her professional achievements, her family was the cornerstone of her existence. Chelsea married her beloved husband, Austin Askew, on November 21, 2009, and together they nurtured a beautiful family. She was the devoted mother of two sons and embraced the joys of grandmotherhood with enthusiasm, showering her granddaughter and grandson with love and affection.
As a Paraprofessional at Legacy Elementary School, Chelsea's impact was profound. She was more than just an educator; she was a beacon of support and inspiration to her students and colleagues alike. Her commitment to fostering a nurturing environment earned her the esteemed title of Support Person of the Year for Bossier Parish School District, a testament to the deep connections she built with those around her. Chelsea took great pride in being part of Legacy Elementary School, and her presence will be profoundly missed.
Chelsea was preceded in death by her mother, Tammy Marie Nicholson Gibney; maternal grandmother, Agnes Louise Nicolson; paternal grandparents, William J. Gibney, Sr. and Shelby N. Gibney.
She is survived by her loving husband, Austin Woods Askew; sons, J. Carter Askew, and Ryder Woods Askew; father, William James Gibney, Jr.; grandchildren, Ember Woods Askew, and Paxton Reign Askew along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Honoring Chelsea as pallbearers will be Michael Ballard, Nicholas White, John Nicholson, Mike Nicholson, Cole Marbut, and Eddie Fouch. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kristen Marbut, Ashley Bounds, Kathryn Cloud, Tara Nelson, Sharley Barrow, and Shelby Bryan.
The family suggests memorials or donations may be made to Carter Askew and Ryder Askew at Austin Askew, 4111 Courtland Way Benton, Louisiana 71006.
