Chester Anthony "Buzz" Wojecki, Jr.

Chester Anthony “Buzz” Wojecki, Jr. passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 am.  

Born February 18, 1948, Buzz was a true native son of Bossier City. Buzz was the first of four children born to his parents Chester Anthony “Chet” Wojecki, Sr. and Martha Louise Reed Wojecki, married for 52 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Christine Wojecki Schapery in 2021; his brother, Michael Edward Wojecki in March of 2024 and his brother-in-law, William Eddy “Rusty” Isler in 2023. 

Buzz is survived by his youngest sibling, Vincent David Wojecki, and wife, Peggy Boudreaux Wojecki; his son, William Andrew Wojecki, who with his wife, Agustina Rastelli, have two children, Oliver Wojecki (age 11) and Matilda Wojecki (age 8). Buzz loved spending time with his grandchildren and together built great memories visiting and playing on the beaches of Galveston, Texas. Buzz was a fun uncle to nephew, Ryan Schapery and nieces, Julianne Schapery, Sherry Isler Sparks, and Stacey Isler. 

His early years of education were at Christ the King Elementary School. He began his years in public education at Rusheon Jr. High and his football career as a Rusheon Ram. Buzz is a PROUD graduate of Bossier High School (the Class of 1966). He was a co-captain of the 1966 Bearkat football team and an all-city linebacker. Buzz was Mr. BHS his Senior Year, and he maintained being a lifelong, ardent supporter of Bossier High School and its Alumni association. 

A graduate of Louisiana Tech University, Buzz began a career in the insurance business and in civic service. He served on the Bossier City Council, as a councilman-at-large, for three consecutive four-year terms (1977-1989). He was the first Republican elected to public office in Bossier City. In 1979, at the age of 31, he was elected Acting Mayor during the mayor’s illness. He most valued his efforts in supporting the development of the Bossier City Administrative Complex and securing funding for the Fire Department to update and acquire new fire trucks in the early to mid-1980s. He loved his years involved in Bossier Council work. 

Buzz was an avid community member coaching in YMCA basketball and Dixie League baseball. He served as Head Coach of the Knights of Columbus baseball team for several years. Later in life, he pursued his passion for education. He returned to Louisiana Tech to get both his teacher’s certification and his master’s degree in education in 2012. He was a student teacher at his Alma mater, Bossier High, and taught at Green Oaks High School. 

Buzz had a passion for history, international politics, and digital photography. For those who knew him well, his library of history books and historical knowledge were unrivaled. He was passionate about historical affairs and public policy. While at Tech, Buzz studied the Russian language in anticipation of a possible international career. As a regular at Cobbs BBQ, he could be seen sharing stories and visiting with friends. He was often with his camera, as he loved to document life around him. Buzz was always willing to learn and grow in many ways. At the age of 38, he joined the Bossier City Diving team at Mike Wood Community Park. Who said old dogs can’t learn new tricks?  

The family wishes to acknowledge the expressions of love and concern from friends towards Buzz. The family also expresses their gratitude to Dr. Rajan Khanna of Christus Health for years of support and care, and to Christus Grace Home hospice staff for their loving care of Buzz in his last days. Special thanks to neighbors Joe and Nancy Meshell, and Debbie Purvis. 

A Bossier Bearkat through and through, he joins a few of his fellow classmates and alumni of the great Bearkat Nation in the heavens above….
