Clarence “Dick” Wentworth passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loved ones, on February 14, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 6, 1936, in Portland, Maine, to Fred and Ruth Wentworth, Dick lived a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to his family.
In 1956, Dick joined the U.S. Air Force, a decision that led him to Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was there that fate intervened, arranging a blind date that would change his life forever. That date introduced him to the love of his life, Dorothy, whom he married in 1961. Their 63-year marriage was a testament to true love and partnership, blessed with six children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
A devoted family man, Dick always put others before himself. His sons will forever cherish the fatherly wisdom he shared over the years, lessons that shaped their lives in countless ways. After serving his country, Dick transitioned to a long and fulfilling career at General Electric as a coil winder, where he worked diligently for 31 years.
Dick was known for his quick wit and sense of humor, always ready with a joke or a funny remark to lift someone’s spirits. He had a way of making people laugh, even on their worst days. He never met a stranger—his natural charm and gift for conversation earned him the childhood nickname “Motor Mouth,” and he carried that talent throughout his life.
In his free time, Dick enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—sitting on his front porch, working on crossword puzzles and word searches, and watching the hummingbirds dart around the feeders he so carefully maintained. He had a special love for the casino, especially Toucan’s, where he could often be found playing video poker and catching up with friends, both there and at Denny’s next door. And when it came to food, nothing made him happier than a plate of catfish — he would have eaten it for every meal if given the chance.
Dick’s warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Dick is preceded in death by his father, Fred L. Wentworth Sr.; mother, Ruth Argery O’Brien; wife, Dorothy Laverne Willis; siblings, Fred Leroy, Jr. (Sonny), Marjorie Ruth, and Robert Leroy. Left to cherish Dick’s memory are his children, Debra Wallace (Jason), Ricky Wentworth, Wayne Wentworth (Tricia), Tommy Wentworth (Carrie) , Timmy Wentworth, Audrey Besch (James); grandchildren, Heather Wallace, Jennifer Wallace, Madison Sullivan (Tyler), Dylan Brossette (Jami), Cheyenne Vascocu (Andrew), and Kristin Brillo; great-grandchildren, Noah Brillo, Alden Brossette, and Everett Brossette.
Honoring Dick as pallbearers will be Jason Wallace, Wayne Wentworth, Ricky Wentworth, Tommy Wentworth, Timmy Wentworth, and Chris Crank. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Conrad, Andrew Vascocu, and James Barnett.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his caregivers: Jerome, Saundra, Shuwanika, and Monica for their kindness and immense support leading up to and during his final days. Your care and compassion were a great comfort to Dick and played a vital role in helping him through those final days.
Dick passed away on the evening of February 14th, ensuring that in their 63 years of marriage, he and Dorothy never had to spend a Valentine’s Day apart. Those who knew him well knew this is exactly how he would have wanted it — to be by her side, with a bouquet of her favorite roses — and it was a final reflection of his deep love and devotion as a husband. After just a few months of separation, he is now reunited with his beloved wife as well as many dear family members and friends he cherished.
The family would like to invite friends and loved ones to a graveside service to celebrate Dick’s life that will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Rose-Neath Cemetery, 5185 Swan Lake Rd., Bossier City, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be Brother Paul Navarre. Everyone is invited to a “Celebration of Life” reception following the graveside service for Dick at 2947 Duncan Dr., Shreveport, Louisiana 71119.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be made to either the American Lung Association or the Air Force Wounded Warrior Program.
