Clarence Leon Hicks, Jr.

Coushatta, LA Celebration of life and going home service for Clarence Leon Hicks, Jr., 74, will be Saturday, January 10, 2015, at the Kilpatrick's Rose-Neath Coushatta Chapel at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Leigh Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hall Summit, LA. Visitation will be held Friday, January 9, 2015, from 5 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home in Coushatta. Leon was born on January 20, 1940 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Clarence and Winnie Harmon Hicks. He graduated from Hall Summit High School in 1958 and joined the United States Marine Core Reserves in 1962. Leon married Hazel Singletary on December 28, 1962. She was the love of his life and they enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. They built a loving and beautiful home in the Crossroads community of Red River Parish where they raised two daughters and a son. Leon retired from Roadway Express in 1998 after 25 years of dedication, commitment, and an exceptional safety record. No one was a stranger to Leon. He could talk for hours to both lifelong friends and people he'd only just met. The words generous, kind, sweet, and caring are often spoken to describe Leon; however, the tremendous legacy that he leaves to his family and friends can never be adequately expressed in words. He welcomed everyone into his life and home and would offer help to anyone in need. He loved many; however, his grandchildren filled his heart with a special and endless joy. He will be missed and remembered by the many lives he touched. Preceding him in death were parents, Clarence L. Hicks, Sr. and Winnie Hicks. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Hazel Singletary Hicks; son, Jay Hicks and Javier H. Jara; daughters, Becky Craig and Leigh Anne Norman and husband, Jonathan; and four grandchildren, Samantha Craig, Colby Craig, Alaina Norman, and Hayden Norman. Serving as pallbearers will be Paxton Moseley, Stanley Moseley, Johnny Jacobs, Eric Johnson, Allen Spires, Brad Raburn, Troy Raburn, and Danny Suggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Shaw, Warren Perkins, Lary Wimberly, and Jack Harrison.
