Claudie Shaffer

Arcadia - Funeral Services celebrating the life of Claudie Lee Sanders Shaffer will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Howington, Reverend Bill Moon, and Reverend Ed Dilworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove United Methodist Cemetery. Mrs. Shaffer passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at her home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5-7 pm at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Claudie was born the eldest of 5 children on October 12, 1916 to Christopher Columbus and Mattie Mae Sanders and grew up in the Mt. Mariah community north of Arcadia. She graduated from Athens High School. On October 16 1937, Claudie married Morgan Casper Shaffer and after many adventures traveling around the country, they made their home in the Oak Grove community. They were married 70 years when Morgan passed away in 2008. They loved to travel around the country and visited every state in the United States except Alaska and Hawaii. Claudie was truly a servant of God and a longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. She served as President of the Gibsland/Oak Grove United Methodist Women's Unit for many years. She believed and lived out the scripture Joshua 24:15 "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Anyone that visited their home has fond memories of listening to her read daily devotionals and scripture out loud over the breakfast table. She was a homemaker, managing the finances and cooking for her family, neighbors, and anyone else who happened to drop by. Claudie was preceded in death by her parents - Chris and Mattie Sanders; husband - Morgan C. Shaffer; son - Lloyd Morgan Shaffer, daughter - Sharon Lee Shaffer Shepherd; son-in-law Elwood Allen Shepherd, Sr.; and son-in-law Elisha "Buddy" Payne; brother and sister-in-law - John Wiley Sander and Elsie Sanders; and brother-in-law Ross Methvin. She is survived by her daughter - Shirley Shaffer Payne; daughter-in-law - Pabla "Vickie" Shaffer; grandchildren - Angela Payne Cole, husband Justin and their children Christian and Cassian, Elisha A. Payne IV and wife Kym, Tonya Striplin and husband Paul, Monika Locke, husband Lee and their son Grisham, Lance Shaffer, wife Jamie and their children Luke and Jenna, Paul Shaffer, wife Kelly and their children Morgan and Shelby;; sisters Elouise Sanders and Era Methvin; brother and sister-in-law Joe and Wilma Sanders. Pallbearers will be Randy Shaffer, Elisha Payne IV, Lance Shaffer, Paul Striplin, Justin Cole, Lee Locke. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Mark Blackwelder and his staff, the staff of Magnolia Home Health, the staff of Premier Hospice, and caretakers Dorothy Wright and Wanda Simpson.
