Cliffard John Steven Anderson

BOSSIER CITY, LA - Cliffard J.S. Anderson passed away on Monday, August 1, 2016 following complications from a brief illness. Born September 16, 1936 in Harper County, Oklahoma, Cliffard was the second of three sons born to James Alexander and Naomi Baugh Anderson who were farmers. He remembered with fondness his time with his brothers and friends at the Oklahoma Methodist Home for Children in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where they lived together when their mother fell on hard times after the death of their father. After graduating from school in Tahlequah, Cliffard joined the Air Force where he served for 24 years, retiring in 1980 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. It was while he was stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base that he met his wife, Jacquelyn Lunt and they married May 22, 1959. It was after the birth of their first son, Steven at Walker Air Force Base in New Mexico that his time of service to the country took him to Puerto Rico where the family lived for 3 years. After being stationed later in Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Michigan, their second son, Paul was born. After retiring, the family settled back in Jacquelyn\'s home town, Shreveport to be with family. Cliffard was employed with the City of Shreveport in the Department of Streets and Drainage and Engineering for 20 years and retired in 2000. Cliffard loved woodworking and delighted in giving small objects he had made to family and friends. He particularly took pleasure in helping others learn to read. He has served others through the Literacy Volunteers of America from before his retirement from the city up to his time of passing. He dutifully served as the Chairman of the Board for LVA, as well. His greatest joy was spending time with family, especially his only grandchild, Bridget born in 2010 to Paul and Ashley Anderson. Clifford is preceded in death by his parents; his older brother Finn Anderson; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Kleva and his beloved wife, Jacquelyn Anderson. He is survived by his younger brother and his wife, Perry and Judy Anderson of St. Louis, Missouri; their daughter, Marla and her soon-to-be 4 children; his sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Priscilla Anderson and Paul and Ashley Anderson and his granddaughter, Bridget Elizabeth. Additionally, Cliffard leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews from Jacquelyn\'s side of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Cliffard Anderson\'s honor to the Literacy Volunteers of America at 2911 Centenary Blvd Shreveport, LA. 71104 to Mrs. Sue Lee. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at Rose-Neath Southside Chapel. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Uriah Oxford will be officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, August 6, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.
