SHREVEPORT, LA. - Funeral services celebrating the life of Clurcy Merle Estes, 93, will be held at noon Saturday, April 23 at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Chuck McInturf. Interment will follow at Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will precede the funeral service from 10:30 a.m. until service at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Estes passed away on April 20, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. She was born in Calico Rock, Arkansas to John and Jessie Collins on July 25, 1922. Merle was a very talented cook, and excellent seamstress. She had a unique ability in the art of crocheting and quilting. As a faithful member of Woodridge Baptist Church, formerly Caddo Heights Baptist Church, she served as a Deacon's wife and held several teaching positions.

After celebrating 66 years of marriage, her loving husband, Harlin Estes, Sr., preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her guardian grandmother Sedie Collins of Calico Rock, Arkansas; parents; and two brothers Orbie Lee Collins of Cushion, OK; Orgle Cleo Collins of Rodell ,CA. Left to cherish her memory as a loving mother are: daughter Joyce Estes of Monroe, LA; son Harlin Estes, Jr. of Shreveport, LA; daughter Betty Wells and husband Ron of Shreveport, LA; son Billy Estes and wife Kris of Shreveport, LA. Known as Mam-maw to her grandchildren: Lindy Haines and husband Jack of Shreveport, LA; Beth Rogers and husband Kevin of Brock, TX; Byron Wells and wife Brandy of Benton, LA; Ashley Griffin and husband Chad of Shreveport, LA; Melissa Estes of Shreveport; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-laws: Betty Estes of Natchitoches, LA; Lorene Estes of Avery, Tx; Billie Estes of Batesville, AR; Lucy Wilson and husband Donald of Chanute, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Estes and her family thank the people that were close to her, taught her, loved her, and became an important part of her life. We would also like to express special thanks to Frances Hayden, Earl Alexander's Golden Gate Nursing Services, the direct caregivers of The Chateaus at Montclair, The Circle of Life, and Riverpark Church Outreach Ministry. They also want to thank her pastor, Dr. Chuck McInturf, of Woodridge Baptist Church. Her dear friends of the former Mattie Lou Farmer Sunday School Class and current Ruth Class will always be remembered for their loving support and compassion. Pallbearers, Noel Cordero, Raymond Hopkins, Allen Prewitt, Roger Rossett, Ronnie Rossett, and Rodney Schepp.
