Arcadia - Funeral services will be held for Collier A. McBride, Sr., 90, at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the Marsalis Community. Bro. Spencer Lovitt and Bro. Tommy Davidson will officiate. Interment will follow at Tulip Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia.
Collier McBride, Sr. was born August 23, 1925 in Claiborne Parish, and passed away February 2, 2016 at Claiborne Manor Nursing Home in Homer, LA. He was a Deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Collier was a sergeant in the 576 Air Squadron of the Army and served on Luzon Island in the Phillippines during World War II. After his service, he worked for United Gas for many years, and then operated a dairy on the family farm until retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Estelle McBride of Athens and sister Mildred Pate of Ruston. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Rogers McBride, son Allen McBride, Jr., granddaughters Jewella Newlen and Luke Smith of Athens and Kathy Poston of Shreveport, by great-grandsons Blake Newlen and Trevor Poston, brother Kennon Ray McBride and wife Vivian of Athens, sisters Robeline Maetinez of Bossier, Faye Cole of Gibsland, Edna Zappa of Athens and Juanita Frye and husband James of Gibsland, and by numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
