Colynn "Coco" Smyer Butler

Wanda Colynn Smyer Butler, age ninety-two (92), of Homer, Louisiana, passed away joining her late husband, Stuart, in our Heavenly Kingdom on January 3, 2025. After a long, hard-fought battle with cancer, she is finally home, healed, and in the loving arms of Jesus.

Colynn was born on September 10, 1932, to Carlton Comer Smyer and Evelyn Mae Archer Smyer, at The Carter Sanitarium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

If you met Colynn, you knew that she was an intelligent woman and enjoyed spending time reading and at the library. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that she graduated from Homer High in 1950, at the young age of seventeen (17). She thereafter obtained her Medical Technologist Certificate from Confederate Memorial Medical Center, which is now known as LSU Health – Shreveport, in 1954.

Colynn is survived by one sister, Carlene Smyer Little. Colynn is preceded in death by her husband, Greene Stuart Butler Sr., to whom she was married for sixty-five (65) years before Stuart departed this world in 2019. Colynn and Stuart are survived by their four (4) children: Dr. Greene Stuart Butler Jr. and his wife, Kathy; Laura Butler Lassere and her husband, Lee; Mary Evelyn Butler Magee and her husband, Dale; and Dr. Bettie Smyer Butler Fauntleroy and her husband, Clayton.

Although she was known to many as Colynn, her greatest honor was being “Coco” to her grandchildren as well as several great-grandchildren. Colynn is survived by nine (9) grandchildren and nineteen (19) great grandchildren, as follows: Carl Butler; Colleen Butler-Carter, her husband, Zack, and their three (3) children, Daniel, Jace, and Chloe Ann; Tony Lassere, his wife, Holly, and their three (3) children, Hudson, Wyatt, and Everett; Andrew Lassere, his wife, Mary, and their three (3) children, Sutton, Baker, and Shepherd; Katie Lassere; Christopher Magee, his wife, Natalie, and their three (3) children, Effie Kate, Burke Greene, and Smith Levi; Jonathan Magee, his wife, Rebecca, and their three (3) children, Addison, Madelyn, and Aiden Dale; Josh Fauntleroy, his wife, Abbey, and their two (2) children, Lainey and Luke; and, Seth Fauntleroy, his wife, Allisyn, and their two (2) children Paisley Rae and Adley Wren. Colynn is also survived by six (6) nephews. All nine (9) of her grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Colynn lived her life as a disciple of Christ and touched the lives of all who knew her. She was genuinely a “Proverbs 31” wife and mother. Being a wife to Stuart and a mother to her four (4) children was her greatest joy, until her grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, that is! She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 4, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church, 618 2nd Street, Homer at 2:00 p.m., and Rev. Robert Penny and Rev. Josh Fauntleroy, officiated The visitation was held at the church from 1-2, prior to the service. Interment was in Arlington Cemetery, Homer, LA
