Coy McClung

Coy McClung, 96, died January 22, 2015. He was a resident of the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe, LA. He was born in Strong, AR, to John Dallas and Mary Lee McClung. Mr. McClung was a 1941 graduate of Louisiana Tech, Ruston. He worked his way through college in the Civilian Conservation Corps and by driving a Louisiana Tech Commuter Bus. After graduation, he served in Intelligence in the Army Air Corp in Europe from 1942-45 with the 434^th Troop Carrier Group. After the war, Mr. McClung worked for the Soil Conservation Service, leading a work unit in Marksville, LA and finally serving as an Area Conservationist for Northwest Louisiana. Mr. McClung was preceded in death by Geneva, his wife of 68 years, his brother Duward, and sisters Ruth McClung Deaderick and Floy McClung Johnston. He is survived by his son Steven and wife Elaine of Powell, Ohio; daughters Rebecca McClung Cady and husband Herbert of Alexandria; and Catherine McClung Butcher and husband Jimmy of Minden. His nine grandchildren are David McClung and wife Michelle; Karen McClung Mittendorf and husband Brian; Julie McClung Beck and husband Matthew; John Cady and his wife Martha; Rachel Butcher Hale and husband Chase; Jennifer Butcher Fox and husband William; Jim Cady, Jamin Butcher, and Reid Butcher. Twelve great-grandchildren are Elliott and Gloria Cady; Jack and William McClung, Abigail and Sadie Mittendorf, Thomas, Anne, and Emily Beck, Lalia McFarland, and Chanler and Raylee Hale. Coy and Geneva were always active in local churches. Among them were Sharon Baptist Church, Marksville Baptist Church where Coy was a deacon. Horseshoe Drive Baptist Church in Alexandria, and North Acres Baptist Church in Minden. They shared a lifelong love of camping and fishing and were members of Campers on Mission for many years. They were avid game players, whether with friends, family, and, especially with their children and grandchildren. A man of uncommon warmth, energy, and civility, Mr. McClung loved a funny story, especially of real life situations. Family was very important to Mr. McClung, and he was happiest when together with his siblings, cousins, children, and grandchildren. The family would like to thank Mac Henderson for his tender and compassionate care during the last few years of Mr. McClung's life. Visitation will be Friday, January 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 31 also at Rose-Neath Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Smithson, pastor of North Aces Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery in Sharon. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
