Daina Mayfield was born August 17, 1919 in Panola County, Texas, the daughter of Lawson and Ada Mayfield. She was the youngest of 4 children and has been preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings. She graduated from Longstreet High School in Longstreet, Louisiana. In 1941 she met her husband of 50 years, Tom McClurg, Sr.
Daina and Tom were parents to two children, Mary Louise Parker and Tom McClurg, Jr. They had 5 grandchildren and at the time of her death Daina had 14 great-grandchildren.
Many will remember the bus she drove more than 30 years for the Greenwood Schools. After raising her family, Daina began to work at the City of Greenwood Water Department and worked there until her retirement in 1998. During this time she and Tom were members of the Pioneer Club, Greenwood Methodist Church and, of course, the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron.
Daina loved working with her flowers and in the garden. She spent many an hour over the past 20 years with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, telling stories, playing tea party, preparing snacks and watching cartoons. If there was free time for the grandchildren then a trip to Granny\'s was in order.
She truly had a kind heart. She cared for her own family. Whether it was a stranger needing help, a family member needing a place to stay or a child that needed a lap, Daina was the person the family would seek out. What a joy to have known her.
