Dan C. Brown, 93, of Mansfield, Louisiana, passes away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at DeSoto Regional Hospital. Pursuant to the wishes of the deceased and his widow, there will not be visitation or other memorial services at this time. The family plans for the couple's life to be celebrated at a later date.
Dan was born January 19, 1921 to the late William LeGrand Brown and Jane Virginia Poplin Brown. He married Hazel Lois Brown in June, 1940 and for the past 74 years they have enjoyed a long friendship and marriage. In addition to Hazel, Dan is survived by his son, Scott Brown and wife, Jodie Langston Brown, his granddaughter, Jennifer L. Brown, his granddaughter, Danielle Brown Gosslee and husband Robbie, and his grandson Rick B. Brown and wife Suzanne. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Christopher Bolton, Caroline Berlin, and Hank, Audrey and Phoebe Brown.
Dan was preceded in death by his son, Rickie Bob Brown, his two sisters, Cletice Brown Busby and Annice Brown Knight and his two brothers, Buster Brown and Dale Brown.
Dan was a WWII veteran. In 1949 he moved to Mansfield and established Brown's Cleaners & Laundry which he operated as a sole proprietorship for over 30 years. During this period of his life Dan was active in the Louisiana State Dry Cleaning Association in which he served as president. Dan was a member of the Desoto Parish School Board for 26 years and served as president thereof for 12 consecutive years. After he sold Brown's Cleaners, Dan continued to work, operating Desoto Abstract Company and managing Valentine Ready Mix Company. Finally, he was struck down by a serious stroke which partially physically disabled him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ben Leggio, Dr. Jeffrey Evans and Dr. Tommy Brown and the entire nursing staff at DeSoto Regional Hospital for the exceptional care given to Dan during his last days. In addition the family is grateful to the staffs of the Oaks independent and assisted care facilities and the staff of Mansfield Nursing Care Center for the professional and loving care of Dan during his respective tenures at their facilities. Their care was second to none.
