Daniel Lee Dupont

Daniel Lee Dupont was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on May 9, 1943 and passed away on July 18, 2024.

Dan, better known as Fat Boy or Sonny Boy was the eldest son of twelve children born to Elzia and Dan Dupont. If you were to ask any of his siblings about their brother, they would all agree that he hung the moon. He was raised on the bayou fishing most of his days and grew up to be an avid hunter and commercial fisherman. His parents owned the Dupont Fish Market where Dan took a huge role in helping run the business. If he wasn’t fishing or at the Market, you could find him on a bulldozer or in a pecan orchard.

He attended C.E. Byrd High School and graduated in 1962.

At the age of 17 was when Dan met his forever honey, Jaqueline (Jackie) Faye. They later got married on April 3, 1963 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. They shared a type of love that people can only pray and hope for. Dan and Jackie raised their four boys along the banks of the Twelve Mile Bayou. Up and down the levee you could always find countless cousins and friends who knew they had a safe and warm place to fill their bellies with Aunt Jackie’s good cookin’. As a family we loved to be entertained by sitting on the back porch listening to Fat Boy relive many many stories that he was known for telling, even if there was a fib or two.

Dan spent many of his years in a 57 Chevrolet leading the race at Hilltop or Boothill Speedway where he had a bounty on him most weekends. He had a passion for being at the track where he made strong lasting friendships. Whether he was racing or not, he was always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. It could have taken minutes or days and maybe a few choice words, but he would always figure it out. His expertise in repairs was highly sought after within the racing community.

Anyone that knew Dan would agree that his ability to light up a room was what they most admired about him. He had a funny and loving personality like no other. He had his own way of capturing people’s full attention. If he picked on you, it meant he loved you. That was his love language. He was known for his quick wit but always had honest intentions.

All while being great at every role in his life, he was by far the best at being a Papaw to his grandbabies. From boat rides, sneaking quarters for the gum ball machine, getting his nails painted, teaching us to love the Dallas Cowboys, building the best swing set ever, cracking pecans till’ our fingers were sore, sitting in the deer stand to letting us take a quick swim in the bayou under the bridge, if Mamaw wasn’t looking. Everything he did was out of pure love and as long as we were happy, he was happy. ESPECIALLY if we were in his lap doodling in his rocking chair.

Jackie, his four boys, grandbabies, fishing, hunting and race cars were his life as you can see. He lived a good, humble, honest life. He loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace surrounded by Heavenly light.

Psalm 149:4 “ For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory.”

He is preceded in death by his parents, Elzia and Dan Dupont; brothers, Don and Ben Dupont; sisters, Julie Jane Wynn and Vallie Dupont and special nephews, Dell Ray, Little Phil and Cody Wynn.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Dupont; his sons, Danny Dupont and wife, Codi, Jimmy Dupont, Chad Dupont and wife, Jennifer, Josh Dupont and his 7 grandchildren, Travis Dupont, Danielle Dupont and fiancé, Luke Aleaxander, Leah Alexander and husband, Derek, Dakota Miciotto and husband, Matt, Dallas Smith and husband, Brandon, Austin Dupont and Emma Dupont. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, sisters and many nieces and nephews.
