David "Dave" Giddings

David "Dave" Leon Giddings of Shreveport, LA, passed away at Christus Highland Medical Center Friday, November 6, 2020 at the age of 73. He was born December 30, 1946, in Yazoo City, MS to the late Leon Eldridge Giddings of Coushatta, LA and Ethel Mae Gaskell of Bristol, England. He is survived by his two children, David Giddings of Long Beach, CA and Jennifer Giddings of Jonesboro, AR, and one sister Jan Hardy and husband, Robert of Pascagoula, MS. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, August and Dawson Giddings; a nephew, Brian Westbrook; and a host of dear friends and beloved family members from America to England. Dave graduated from Purvis High School (Mississippi) in 1965, where he excelled in scholastic and basketball achievements. In 1969, he was an honor graduate from Mississippi College. He was remembered by his former classmates as always being willing to help in any way, including tutoring fellow students in math. He served his country in the Mississippi National Guard and began his lifelong career in the oil business soon after. Dave was an avid sports fan enjoying all sports. Though he was one of the shortest basketball players, his team made conference for three consecutive years. He also played softball and was a top-notch shortstop always wearing his favorite number "11" jersey. He also enjoyed bowling and played on local leagues on several occasions. Dave excelled in everything he set out to do - work, sports, and church, in which he was an ordained deacon. He is remembered for his strong Christian faith, honesty and integrity as well as his dry sense of humor and love of puns. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. There will be a private ceremony held for Dave at a later time due to COVID. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Brookwood Baptist Church, 9014 Brookwood Church Way, Shreveport, LA 71106, where his dear friend, Pastor John Harp, is associate minister.
