DAVID PAUL JONES
David Paul Jones died peacefully December 21, 2014 after a lengthy struggle with lung and heart problems. He was surrounded by his family and good friend, Albert Tucker, Sr.He was born in Minden, LA June 25, 1941 to the late John Paul and Chloe Crawford Jones of Heflin.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Charlotte Anderson Jones, three daughters
and sons-in-law, Melanie and Gregg Parks, Lori and Mike Kowalski and Debbie and Harper Edwards; grandchildren Dave Parks, Jack Parks, Max Edwards, Allie Edwards and Michael Kowalski, brother, Dr. Lewis C. Jones and wife Ginger, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
David was a devoted husband and father and was proud of his family. He especially loved his girls and grandchildren. He was a talented pianist who played by ear and often entertained his family and friends with his music. He was an avid Saints fan and enjoyed reading and travelling. His travels included Alaska, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands. He supported organ donation and his corneas were given to the Louisiana Eye Bank.
He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, owning several winning race horses. After retirement, he looked forward to playing gin with his friends at Pine Hills Country Club in the afternoons. Keeping up with family and friends on Facebook also gave him a lot of pleasure.
He graduated Northwestern State University with a degree in Sociology. After college he served in the Air Force Reserve, where he was an expert marksman. His career began as an Investigator for Louisiana State Department of Health in Baton Rouge. He and his family moved back to the Minden area in 1969 to join his father in the grocery business, operating Jones Cash Store in Heflin for many years. Following that he entered real estate, becoming a broker with Century 21 Realty before joining LaState Realty until his retirement.
David served as Mayor of Sibley in the 1970's and was a member of Sibley Lions Club. He was a member of Minden Presbyterian Church, where he had formerly served as Deacon.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Minden Medical Center, especially Dr. Michael Chanler, Dr. Max Stell, Brint Fegley and Natalie Holley. They also want to thank Dr. Randy Bryn at Willis Knighten North.
Visitation will be at Rose-Neath Funeral Home - Minden, Tuesday, December 23, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Services will be held at Minden Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 24, at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Dr. Philip McLarty and assisted by Rev. Tony Angell. Albert Tucker, Sr., Doug \"Red\" Cupples, Brad Reynolds, Jerry McCoy, Bob Igo, Sr. and Joe Bob Beatty will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Minden. Memorials may be made to Minden Presbyterian Church, 1001 Broadway, Minden, LA 71055 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
