David Elsworth Lawrence

SHREVEPORT, LA - David Elsworth Lawrence was born in Chatham, LA on September 23, 1923 to Woody Hartsell Lawrence and Ivy Elnora Smith Lawrence. He departed this life to live eternally with his Father in Heaven on December 3, 2014. He was a life-long resident of Shreveport and retired from the city after many years of service. He was a member and deacon of Morningside Baptist Church (Kingston Road Baptist Church). He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many hours on Toledo Bend and deer hunting, mostly in the woods around Jonesboro Hodge. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Nora Giddens Lawrence; parents, two brothers, Elvis and Travis; and a sister, Tressie Lawrence Holland. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Howell Lawrence; two married sons, Michael and Trish Lawrence and Melvin and Alison Lawrence; two married step-sons, Chris and Melanie Howell and Greg and Monica Howell. He is survived by 8 grandchildren, April Lawrence, Jacob Pillsbury, Matt Howell, Zachary Lawrence, Rebecca Lawrence, Claire Howell, Allison Howell, and Savannah Howell who brought him innumerable hours of fun and joy. He is also survived by one sister and her husband, Nelda and Butch Poole and one sister-in-law, Francis Lawrence. Services for David Lawrence will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 6, 2014, in the Rose-Neath Southside Chapel with Brother Rusty Durand and Brother Gene Nix officiating. Burial will be at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery on Mansfield Road following the services. The family would like to welcome guests for visitation Friday, December 5, 2014 from the hours of 6-9 PM at Rose-Neath. Pallbearers for Mr. Lawrence will be Randy Layfield, Matt Layfield, Harold Giddens, Greg Howell, Chris Howell, Andy Pardue. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Durand, Robert Cooper, Bobby Britnell and Ronnie Giddens. The Lawrence family would like to thank the staff at Hertiage Manor South, especially Mark Jordan, for all their help through the years and the many thoughtful ladies at Grace Home for their kindness.
