David R. McClamroch

David Robert McClamroch was born September 18, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, the second of four children of Dorothy and Harris McClamroch. He grew to adulthood in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he attended A.C. Steere Elementary, Arthur Circle Elementary, Broadmoor Jr. High, Youree Dr Jr. High, and C. E. Byrd High School. He attended the University of Texas, Austin, from 1964 to 1968.

He lived in the San Francisco Bay area from 1969 to 1973. During this time, he expanded his life experiences and perspectives, connecting with the beauty of the people and the environment. In 1973, he returned to Shreveport and joined McClamroch Machinery Co, a local business founded by his grandfather and father. He slowly became the principal of the business, assuming responsibility for all operational aspects. He built the business into an important part of the Shreveport commercial scene. David was especially grateful for the many customers and other supporters who helped to make the business a success for more than 60 years. He valued his connections and friendships with many employees. He was proud that McClamroch Machinery Co. provided good employment to many families in Shreveport and the surrounding area. David was an important member of the Shreveport business community. He was an active member of Rotary, STAFDA, and other business and professional organizations.

David had numerous passions. These included his support for the University of Texas and all things “Texas Longhorn.” He was a loyal friend to many, a music lover, and an advocate for social justice and a global humanitarian. Like many in his family, he was an avid swimmer and sports enthusiast.

David was devoted to all members of his family. He married Susan Edwards McClamroch in 1975, and they shared many years of happy marriage.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harris McClamroch in 1991; his mother, Diji McClamroch in 2016; his wife, Sue McClamroch in 2018, and his sister-in-law, Margaret McClamroch in 2023. He is survived by his daughter, Emily McClamroch Mills; his son-in-law, Daniel Mills; his two granddaughters, Amethyst Joy Mills and Rosemary Mills, all of Shreveport, LA. David is also survived by his brothers, Harris McClamroch (Margaret) of Ann Arbor, MI, and James McClamroch (Margie) of Houston, TX; his sister, Susan McClamroch Dixon (Rob) of Graford, TX. Additional family members include Kristi McClamroch, Madhu Iyengar, and their daughter, Kalyani Iyengar of Foster City, CA; Haley and Branch Sheppard and their children, Reid, Jack and Ellen of Houston, TX; Caitlin and Jason King and their daughter, Rowan of Madison, MISS; Harris Dixon and Natalia Saucedo Troconis of Dallas, TX; Daniel Dixon and his son, Liam Ross-Dixon of Fort Worth, TX.

David was extremely supportive of this extended family. Even at the end of his life, he was engaged with friends and family and optimistic about the future generations. He was an inspiration to many of us who spent time with him in recent years.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to all of David’s close friends who were there for him and for the caregivers, especially Gail Baxter and Joyce Cascio, who supported him during the last few years of his life.

The family suggests that David be remembered through donations made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
