SHREVEPORT, LA - David Jeryl Strickland passed away on December 1, 2015 due to an extended illness. He was 68. He was born on April 29, 1947 at home in Many, LA to parents, William (Bill) and Eula Grace Muse Strickland. He was the youngest of 11 siblings.
Dad grew up with a close bond to his parents and was always willing and eager to share stories about them. He had various jobs throughout his lifetime ranging from injection molding to security guard. Dad loved football; his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, the New Orleans Saints and any team who beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dad had a special fondness for animals, especially cats and dogs. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing and passed on the love of the outdoors to his children and granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Danette Strickland of Shreveport; his daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Jim Cook of Waterville, ME; his brother, Douglas Strickland of Bacliff, TX; his sister, Ada Ann Nelson of Boise, ID, and his granddaughter, Teal Strickland. He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 10:00 until 12:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr. Shreveport, LA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate David's life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at a later date in June 2016 in Many, LA at that time he will be interred in the Muse family cemetery beside his parents, brothers, and sisters.
A special thank you is extended to his sister-in-law Kathy Holland who spent many hours with him, visiting and attending to him. Also thanks to the staff at Garden Park Nursing Home, and the staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont who took care of him in his final days.
