Debbie was born on May 4, 1956 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Johnny Reese Moore, Sr. and Minnie Jo Graves Moore and passed away on March 22, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Debbie had a passion for helping others. She became a first responder, then EMT in her Greenwood community, helping all when receiving a call, but she was especially passionate about helping women and children. In 1988, she began nursing school at Northwestern State University of Louisiana. She was very active and an officer in the Student Nurses Association. Following graduation in 1991, Debbie worked at Schumpert Hospital and Summit Hospital. Always striving to help and educate others she continued her nursing education, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing degree and became a Family Nurse Practitioner. Debbie started teaching in the undergraduate nursing program at her Alma Mater in 1994. She went on to become the Director of Student Services. Debbie retired from NSU in 2016 after a 22 year career in academia to enjoy more time with family and friends. She found she missed the connection with students so she began teaching part time in the nursing program at Bossier Parish Community College, impacting again the future nurses in her community. Her greatest professional impact is with the thousands of nursing students, now nurses, she taught, mentored, advised, and helped during her career in academia. This region has been impacted by her direct connection in the Nursing Profession. She was a consummate professional with a heart as big as her love for her family and LSU sports. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother; and sister-in-law, Debbie G. Moore. Left to cherish her memory is her father, J. R. Moore; brothers, Johnny Moore and wife, Belinda, Rodney Free, and Nathan Free; nephew, Ryan Moore and fiance', Tiffany; great-nephews, Joshua Moore and Lane Brann; and great-niece, Reba Brann. Honoring Debbie as pallbearers will be Scott Moore, Geep Moore, Brian Moore, Don Hollis, GT Moody, and Scott Moody. The family would like to express special thanks to the Willis-Knighton South Emergency Department and the Willis-Knighton Pierremont ICU. The care and compassion shown to Debbie is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwestern State University's Nursing Program, 1800 Line Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101.
