Della Marteal Canterbury

Funeral services will be held for Della Marteal Canterbury, age 97, at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Arcadia. Bro. Jeff Hoffman will officiate. The interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:30 until service time on Tuesday. Marteal was born December 10, 1917, in the Oak Grove Community of Lincoln Parish to John and Tishie Cole Canterbury. She entered into rest on April 26, 2015 in Arcadia, LA. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Arcadia. She retired from the Ruston State School, where she was a cottage parent. "Teal", as known by her family, was an avid reader, seamstress, cook and gardener who shared her talents with her family. Teal was a "special" lady to her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Tishie Canterbury and Eunice Holmes Canterbury, siblings Emory Canterbury, Leona Patterson, Vera Mae Whitman, Richard "Buck" Canterbury, and niece Betty Horton. She is survived by her sister Laverne Ray, her devoted sister-in-law Medrick Canterbury, special niece Tishia Newsom, nieces and nephews Johnnie White, Mae Smith, Billie Eldridge, Ronnie Patterson, Craig Whitman, Martha Whitaker, Keith Canterbury, Tammie C. Rockett, Robert Ray, Sherry Sanchez and Brad Ray and by numerous great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mike White, Ronnie Patterson, Craig Whitman, Clark Canterbury, Ron Whitaker, Robert Ray and Tim Nutt. The family would like to Thank Leslie Lakes Retirement for the care they have given to Teal while she was a resident. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Cemetery, Hwy 147, Simsboro, LA 71275.
