Delores was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana February 8, 1945. After spending her young adulthood in Shreveport, she married and moved to the east coast where she lived for many years, but she eventually found her way back to Louisiana in the mid 70's.
After moving back to Louisiana she found a position as an activities coordinator for a privately owned nursing home in Natchitoches, Louisiana. In her position spending time with the elderly she formulated personal relationships with the residents as she loved helping them make their personal surroundings feel like home and she discovered her amazing talent for interior decorating. During this time she met the love of her life Dr. Denny Elisha Gamble. Following her marriage to Dr. Gamble in 1983, her eye for design led her into a very rewarding career as the owner of A Touch of Old on Azalea Dr in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she always had one of her white fluffy pouches right by her side. Tu-Tu, Toby, and Toby two, were three dogs that truly had it made with their clothing, jewelry and weekly spa treatments. One of her only other love affairs was with the thoroughbreds that she and Dr. Gamble raised and raced. She developed a passion for horse racing and loved spending time at the race track. After her brother Chris died in 1993 she contributed much of her time and energy to the Philadelphia Center in Shreveport.
Delores was loved by many and is survived by her husband of 34 years Dr. D.E. Gamble Sr., her daughter Lara Grace Travis and granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Deupree, her three step son's Kit Gamble and wife Lesa, Kevin Gamble and wife Jean, Keith Gamble and wife Maureen, her two brothers Edsel McKee and Dennis Free. Along with many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father William Ezra McKee, mother Melba Gladis Free McKee, youngest brother Chris Free and sister-in-law Pat McKee. Honoring Dee as pallbearers are Kevin Gamble, Jr., Denn Gamble III, Walker Gamble, Jonathan Gamble, Daniel Michaels, Wade Zimmerman, Kevin McKee and Chris Burns.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice and Bayou Sitting Service for providing such amazing comfort and care during the last year and a half of Dee's life. The family is so very grateful for the many friends who have carried us through this season.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to St. Lukes United Methodist Church, 6012 Youree Drive, Shreveport, LA 71105 where Dr. Gamble is a charter member.
