Dodie took her first steps on the streets of gold October 2, 2016, four days after her beloved husband, Paul, made the same journey. She was surrounded by loved ones at her "White house on the Hill" in Elm Grove, Louisiana. She was 82 years old.
Visitation for Dodie and Paul will be held at Rose-Neath Southside Shreveport October 3, 2016 6-8 p.m. Their funeral service will be held at Rose- Neath Southside October 4, 2016 at 11 a.m., officiating will be Denny Duron and Brian Opbroek and prayers by David Murphy. Interment will follow at Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.
Dodie was born in Westlake, Louisiana on February 16, 1934. She is the daughter of the late Chapin Bartlett and Marie "Nettie" Bartlett. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Ruth Hoien, husband Jim, of Forks, Washington, and Paulette Suzanne Freeman of Spoken, Washington; sons Paul Chapman Little, II and Larry Bartlett Little, wife Tracey, of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren Laura Desruisseaux, Valeria McGowan, Michael Dickerson, Michelle Dickerson, Paul Little, III, Jessica Little, Jeremy Little, Grant Little, Kirk Little, Kaylin Little, and Garrett Little; great-grandchildren Devin Shirey, Kade Dickerson, Reid Dickerson, Anna Pisac, Abby Desruisseaux and Alexandra McGowan; In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Paul Little, daughter, Etta Louise Little, a granddaughter, Amber Marie Little, her two brothers and three sisters.
Dodie was a prayer warrior, a teacher, counselor, and world traveler. She began teaching Sunday school when she was 14 and continued until her health declined. She and her late husband, Paul, were faithful members of the Shreveport Community Church for over 40 years where she taught Sunday School for special needs adults and was an active member of the Wise and Wonderful Fellowship Group. She received her Master of Education from LSUS and Master of Arts from Louisiana Tech University. She worked as a teacher and counselor in the Caddo parish school system for 20 years, retiring in 1999 at Forest Hills Elementary. She has traveled to all 50 states, many countries and hundreds of foreign cities with her family and friends from the LSUS Alumni Association. You didn't have to know her for long to realize her relationship with Jesus Christ was a driving force in her life, her kindness knew no bounds.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be Michael Dickerson, Paul Little III, Jeremy Little, Grant Little, Kirk Little, Garrett Little and Devin Shirey.
